Processor hunt....does this animal exist??
What about a Linn Kisto or Kino? I know the Kino has 5.1 input, cant remember whether the Kisto has it though. I am not sure about the conversion requirement either (no A to D back to A). Either way, you're sure to keep that polite Linn sound. I c...
Processor hunt....does this animal exist??
"sorry, for me this rules out Bryston." SP-1.7?You should listen to it before you rule it out. Once in your system if it still sounds bright then... Look at cabling or room reflections and absorption to tame those Revels. The SP-1.7 is definitely ...
DAC in Bryston BP25-DA
I am not 100% sure but...I believe the BP-25DA uses Crystal CS43122 DACs while the SP1.7 uses its Motorola 56367 DSP chip for D/A Conversion.I have the SP1.7 and its a fine DAC, but the BP-25DA IMO, is stellar.
Dynaudio S3.4 or B&W Nautilus 803 ??
I may get flamed for this but... I personally feel that for Vocal and Classical, the B & W's are really hard to beat.Though, if you listen to any other genre you may get more mileage from the Dyns. I loved the S5.4 and if I could afford it, it...
Very Small Desktop Speakers
Here's two desktop setups that are intresting. Alesis Proactive 5.1 is cheap and sounds pretty good too.Genelec 8030a is about 4 times more expensive but sounds awesome.
Anyone hear the Caravelle speaker and not like it?
"Are they using CSC-X Peerless Midbass?"It certainly appears to be, along with a Seas 25TAF/G Tweeter.
the wicked witch is dead
Yeah but, blonde bisexual nymphomaniac twin's make a horrific sound when coughing up hairballs, and I demand quiet when involved in a listening session! Of course, one session could be surplanted by another!
Modified Jolida JD100A or Cary Cd308T
Well I swapped out the smoothplate 12ax7 Tele's for the Gold pin EH 5751's yesterday. And...The DAC is apparently under the transport which I didnt want to remove. The tube output board is in the right rear corner, the headphone output board, with...
question on EAD 8800 Pro ?
I had one for short time for an in home comparison. I wouldnt say it was difficult to setup at all. In fact I found it rather easy. The lack of controls on the face of the unit mandate that you have the remote at all times. Ultimately I chose a di...

Arthur, I distinctly remember EI's 12ax7 having plenty of highs. I tried the regular silver label. I believe they have a premium "gold label" tube in production as well. I havent had an opportunity to hear the "golds" yet.The "silver" EI's are che...

I agree with Aball, the Jolida is a fine player and responds well to tube rolls. My favorite so far has been Telefunken 12ax7 Smooth plates. I havent come across a pair of GE 5751 blackplates but I did try some RCA 5751 3 mica blackplates. FWIW, M...

TI was kind enough to supply a data sheet. The 1706 is actually part number DF1706, which is a filter, not a D/A Converter at all. So my previous post about the current Jolida DAC is obviously in error. I am yet to discover which DAC is actually i...

Arthur, I found something a little odd. My info from about a year ago specifies a Philips UDA1351 DAC, but.... according to the latest data from Jolida it is now a Burr-Brown PCM1706. Go figure. I'll be opening mine next week (tube roll) so I'll t...

Unlikely Arthur. Anyway, I am pretty sure the Jolida uses Phillips DACs, not Burr Browns.
compare new McIntosh universal player with DV-50
On second thought, it isnt all that funny. Though my wife feels it's the "unloading" time that's truely important.
