Rega or VPI
In that case ;), let me recommend a JA Michell Tecnodec. Brand at $1295 set up with an RB250 using the very cool Michell Teconweight and VTA adjuster. Easy to set up; upgrades available. DC motor is the same as the Gyrodec's ;)
Rega or VPI
"Most everybody agrees that Bose are great speakers..."Man...you must hang out with veeeerrry different people than I do...Now, I may be newer here, but *in my opinion*, if you want to recommend that this poster try a modded-to-all-hell Tech 1200,...
Rega or VPI
I think Alex_yakovlev poses a great question. What are you looking for? If you can take the Rega and demo it in your own home, that's a BIG plus! If you get it in your system and it does what you're looking for, then you have your answer. That bei...
Rega or VPI
A "lateral move" from an MMF-5?? LOL! That's some funny stuff. But seriously...
Perhaps a dumb question...
To completely reiterate what everyone else said, here's a little reading for you, at your leisure ;)http://www.furious.com/perfect/vinyl43.html
Best TT/Arm combo fro $2,000-2,500
I noticed you're mentioning unsuspended TTs...but if you don't mind a suspension, I'm quite partial to the Michell Gyrodec. I bought a used Gyro SE (newer make with the DC motor) and put a new OL Silver on...cost me around $2K. I'm a happy ragamuf...
Beogram 3000 linear tracking worth resurecting?
For what it's worth, I checked with my friend who has the TX2. He's using the MMC4 and said he ordered it through a link on the B&O website. As far as the average prices on carts, I don't like to say--you can spend anywhere from $40 to over $1...
Best auto-lift/shutoff turntables?
In addition to what Jimbo said about letting it spin, I can attest that many dealers do this regularly. The first time I went to audition some amps at one of my preferred hifi shops, they asked me to just keep the LP12 they had in the listening ro...
Beogram 3000 linear tracking worth resurecting?
A friend of mine has a Beogram TX2 linear tracker with, if I recall, the MMC2, but don't quote me on that. You can still get them NOS from a couple places on the east coast, I believe. I don't know the names but I can check. BTW the TX2 was given ...
Quiet, cheap table: under $500 new or used....
You know, I've seen a good number of Tech SL1200s that look dead...and are. I've seen plenty AR Turntables that look dead...and not only play, but sound pretty good, too ;) See if you can find an AR with something other than the stock arm--ARs wit...
Is the Ortofon Kontrapunkt A compatible with MMF-7
In my very, VERY humble opinion, MMF7s are not crap and sound fine--don't let snobbery make you feel bad about your equipment. Up until recently, my main TT was an '84 AR Turntable with a Linn Basik tonearm that I bought for $35 and nursed back to...
Is there a SS amp that can offer tube bliss?
I really don't think tubes are the pain that you make then sound like. My tubes amps sound so glllloooorrrrriously good that I simply don't worry about "how much better" they could sound. I've not been compelled to hunt for NOS tubes and even so, ...
Sell or keep my Turntable
Before you sell the Rega, why don't you set it up one last time and spin some records for a couple nights, and see how much you still want to sell it afterwards? Maybe you'll decide you want to keep it...maybe not...but why ask us a question that ...
The obsession, the trees. The music, the forest.
I'm pretty new and just trying to get my rig set up to the best compromise of settings for all my vinyls, from thin old ones to my 200g pressings. Once I find the best compromise--the settings that seem to do well with anything I throw on the plat...
Wow...what a record
Bublitchki, yes it's the single-disc 33 1/3, and side one was pitch corrected. I don't want to make too wild of a comparison as the only other vinyl pressing that I've had a chance to listen to somewhat seriously was, if I recall, an oooollld seco...
