McIntosh MAC 1900/PSB 5T burning smell
It sounds like possibly a capacitor is letting go. They stopped making the 1900 almost 40 years ago so it’s way past time for service. If the amp had been sitting around not being used and you fired it up this can be a problem. I think the speaker...
Why has amplifier power become a big issue
I guess that for my room in my NYC apartment listening to the music I listen to (small jazz quartet/quintet) the 50 watt amp does it for me. I have other amps up to 200 watts per channel from other manufacturers that I can use if the mood strikes....
New amp for Vandersteen 2CE
The nice thing is the Vandersteen 2Ce is a good speaker but it's reasonably priced. I've used Rotel, Krell KST 100 and a YBA 3 DT to drive mine. If you like the sound of the Pass I would go with that. My Krell runs to half power (50 watts) in clas...
New amp for Vandersteen 2CE
Vandersteen speakers will work with a lot of amps. I've cut back the power from 200 watts per speaker to 50. My room and my hearing don't demand more. I will say all of my amps have good power supplies that double power into 4 ohms and sound good ...
Upgrade to Scott Nixon usbtd dac
I'm guessing by the response to my question that either 1) There isn't anything that is better for $1K than my Scott Nixon dac.2) Everything is better than my Scott Nixon dac and that I should know that.3) Or that it's a big secret and that the on...
Have you ever deceived your wife-audio purchase
If you earn it spend as much as you like on anything you want. If you're not cashing in your 401K what difference does it make as far as I know you can't take it with you. That being said there's a point of diminishing return so even though you can...
To adjust ride level of springs on SOTA turntable
Tony-I read your system page with fascination, what you said makes perfect sense I often wondered about the horizontal oscillation of the subchassis on the Sota during loud passages in the music. I figured if the tension on the belt changed due to...
To adjust ride level of springs on SOTA turntable
My table is over 25 years so it may be time to get it checked out. I still don't have any clue what the four hex head screws two in the front and two in the rear are used for. They're not the two transit screws so I assumed they had something to d...
Jolida 1701 Brc or McIntosh 2505?
What do you think? You have your system, your room and all we have is a guess. Best way to decide is play both with the music you like and the one that makes you smile is the winner.
Should I Repair a Plinius 8150 ?
You have to look at what kind of kit can you get for around $750, not a whole lot that will compete with the Plinius. The capacitors have a life, in your case 15 years. That doesn't mean nothing else will ever fail but capacitors are the one item ...
Do I esentially have a class A amp?
Kijanki-Wow!! Thanks for all the information. I'll be honest, the Krell was a freebie so it doesn't hurt my feeling one way or the other. It sounds good even though the KST series of Krell amps get no love. I'll tell you from a pure synergy perspe...
Do I esentially have a class A amp?
I'm not sure on Runnin's speakers but my Vandersteens are fairly benign. Before I started playing with the Krell I was happy with a 35 watt Music Reference RM 10. The Krell is for playing but the Music Reference is a keeper.
Odyssey Khartago and Vandersteen 2
Upgrading to Sig. II sounds like the best option. Maybe I can get $4-500 for my speakers.Yes, they're internally bi-wired. I have two runs of Audioquest Slate I can use. I'm using the internal bi-wire for convenience, I'm in a wheelchair.Someone t...
Odyssey Khartago and Vandersteen 2
I have the 2ce speakers. I bought everything back in the mid 90's, I don't switch very often.
