Anyone spent time with the Totem Wind?
I have a fair amount of experience with the full Totem line, and have owned the Dreamcatcher, Rainmaker, Arro, Staff, Hawk, and Forest. When it came time to upgrade my Forests, I looked at the Winds but decided to go elsewhere. I think the Forest ...
2 DACs: 1 best for movies, 1 best for audio, why?
that's very interesting, and quite possible. Thanks!--dan
"Get Better Sound"
Jim -- I'm glad you weighed in. Because I saw the $150 price tag and thought, hmm, I spend a lot on gear but that's a lot to spend on a book. It does not pose the same dilemma for me at $45. Don't know why I missed that. Thanks!--dan
Anyone put Totem Forests on platforms?
Uh...I'm an idiot. It's Steve Blinn, not Steve Blinderman (SORRY Steve!). steveblinndesigns (dot) comsblinn is his username on Audiogon.
Anyone put Totem Forests on platforms?
Steve Blinderman made me some realy fantastic platforms for my Totem Forests that were quite inexepnsive (less than the Mapleshade solution, and custom made to the dimensions of the speakers and the finish I required). They had been sitting on car...
Choosing the right Toslink cable
in my experience, the Wireworld Super Nova 5+ (now replaced with Supernova 6) completely outperformed the much more expensive Audioquest Optilink 5. It regularly receives top reviewers comments as well.
AppleTV variable output trade-offs?
I believe it works in the digital domain, which means it will degrade quality. I run my AppleTV's via their optical out to an external DAC. My (possibly wrong) understanding is that if something at the source decreases volume through the source's ...
Totem subs
..er, I meant you can find good deals on them USED.
Totem subs
I disagree with Rumadian. My Totem Thunder was a very nice a tuneful and taught sub that was easy to integrate with other speakers and a variety of systems (worked exceptionally well with my Totem Forests). It is not a great deal new, but you can ...
Pro-Ject S FM Tuner
If you mean the Pro-Ject tuner box, yes, I just recently sold mine because I don't need it anymore, but I loved it. Very nice tuner, tiny footprint, great ergonomics, very good at tuning in a signal and avoiding interfernce. The only thing I didn'...
Went to see Monty Alexander at Blues Allley in DC
Hey, I finally got it. The drummer's name is Herlin Riley (used to play with Wynton Marsalis). Here's a nice review of the trio:http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/music/live_reviews/article6815385.ece
Went to see Monty Alexander at Blues Allley in DC
Hey guys. Monty was playing with Hassan Shakur (bass) and a drummer who was fantastic, but unfortunatley, I don't remember his name. Blues Alley is going strong, and I have seen a number of the old schoolers there, even in recent years. One real t...
Review: Music Vault Diamond Transport
Very nice review. Thank you for taking the time to do it. One question: are you using the alpha as the pre-amp too, or are you using a separate pre-amp?thanks!--dan
Bel Canto DAC3 vs ARC DAC 7 ? Anyone
I would be very interested in hearing what some of you are using as transports, notably Blindjim, Macdadtexas, and Drubin. Thanks!
Transport and DAC pairings
thanks all -- most appreciated. clio09, I'm curious what you were trying to improve on in switching out the Northstar gear?
