MoFi Release Meets Expectations FINALLY
MoFi Wake of the Flood and The Band Stage Fright are both better than the original LPs. Beck Sea Change is similarly satisfying-- on a par with the original SACD. I have my eye on Pixies Bossanova for the next one. Has anyone compared the MoFi Pix...

I'll take the black 2002 360 Modena that plays an important role and provides soundtrack "music" in Sofia Cuppola's film "Somewhere." Certainly one of Ferrari's most beautiful recent models.
Best Rock Album in 2012
Beach House "Bloom" is dreamy electro-pop reminiscient of Concrete Blonde, Low, Zero 7, Air, with a dash of Kate Bush. Superb sounding on 2x 45RPM LP.

The DCC pressing is great, like all DCCs I have heard.

Timeltel, extreme LF is articulate and authoritative. It could use a cleaner and more open window from mid-bass into midrange. Hopefully arriving with break-in. However thus far it is proven as a good spend.

Lew & Timeltel, My 981LZS has improved considerably after lightening up on vertical mass, tweaking azimuth, and run-in to the five hour mark. I accord with Lew's assessment of a "richly" detailed performance-- a very detailed but smooth and re...

Regards Timeltel, there will be more listening, dial-in, and break-in to come, but my initial reaction to 981LZS is similar to yours. I have a collection of wands and weights to adjust inertial mass over a wide range; I will try lowering mass. The...

A half day of setting up and break-in NOS 981LZS is slowly yeilding results. It prefers 47K to a 500R load and a light 1-1.1 gm VTF to open up and alleviate an initially dark & recessed presention. Tracking is flawless. Too early to tell what ...
x-tronic 4000 soldering station
These days for hobbiest use I wouldn't over-invest in this area. I've had great luck with this Chinese station for both SMD and general-purpose soldering-- everything except for heavy terminations like speaker binding posts. For those heavy jobs a...
Experience w/ Trans-Fi Auio Terminator Tone Arm?
Wntrmute2, your system profile shows a VPI TNT with SME V. Just curious for your opinion of that rig vs. T-3 on HW-19. T-Pro replaced a SME IV on my TNT.

Lew, what loading do you using on 980LZS? I'm close to mounting mine.BTW I recall purchasing Abbey Road in '70 in the tiny music dept. at Korvettes dept. store-- an isle or two from the toy dept. where plastic guns & ammo had my close attentio...

Sltrains, I get where you're coming from, however I don't see well recorded R&R as less demanding than good classical. On a good system there's not so much difference between Bernie Grundman's Lp master of Foo Fighters Skin & Bones and Cla...

There is most certainly holography-- depending on the recording, of course. This requires a system capable of revealing small variations in volume as depth cues. It's a function of superior electronics, not room variables or speaker placement.

A question about Technics EPC-100C mk2: This cartridge is photographed as fully contained inside an integral headshell. Can the cartridge be removed from the headshell and mounted to a one-piece tonearm via 1/2" holes?
