Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi Fleib, the ART7 owner's manual specifies coil inductance at 8uH(1 kHz). In recent years I've been using only Terminator. At some point I need to compare it to my Technics EPA-100 and Kenwood L07D tonearms-- however Terminator performance has be...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hello Fleib, Sorry for the delayed response regarding Pass XP-25. It's been running in for around two weeks, and if attendant improvements continue, a light verse review may be in order. So far(only tested at the 76db setting with the ART7) it is d...
turntable mats: should I use one?
I've used a Reso-Mat on a highly modified VPI TNT and a Kenwood L07D. Both applications benefitted from a light clamping force or a record weight. I'm currently using a 1 lb. 6 oz. Still Points LPI record weight on top of Reso-Mat with a 4 lb. TT ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Indeed, Quo vadis, Raul? I'm pumped about receiving a Pass Labs XP-25 phono stage later this week. This unit spans the wide gain structure of 53db-76db, enabling comparison between MM/MI and LOMC through the same phono stage without the variable o...
Panel Sound
After hearing ML, SL, Janzen, Sanders, and Kingsound at recent shows, I'm leaning toward King IIIs. These have consistently sounded superb-- with embodiment that eludes most of the other ESLs. Sanders often sounds desiccated and paper-thin(maybe a...
Kenwood L07D antiskating
Lew, when I machined a brass arm base for Terminator to fit into the main position of the L-07D there was a narrow range of adjustment in the arm base collet. I wouldn't be afraid to twist the Kenwood arm down into the collet with a bit of prejudice.
Kenwood L07D antiskating
Lew, Got it, thanks.
Kenwood L07D antiskating
In_Shore, I've had similar results with Stillpoints Ultra 5s under my L-07D-- including a fifth leg under the motor housing.Harold, yes, the Trans-Fi arm sounds great on L-07D. However, in fairness to the Kenwood arm, I have not yet heard it-- owi...
Trans Fi Salvation direct rim drive turntable
I'm curious if ttweights had experience with any tonearm on L-07D other than the stock Kenwood TA-07J unipivot. IME the Trans-Fi Terminator sounds superb on the L-07D, and may be a spoiler in comparing the L-07D to the rim-drive tables.
VPI PLC question
Chris, FWIW I'll add that I threw all the electronics from the PLC in the trash and recycled the enclosure to host a Mark Kelly AC-1 drive controller kit. Waste not want not.
VPI PLC question
The threaded stud on the back of the PLC chassis controls voltage. See if turning that full clockwise improves things. The PLC was the worst audio purchase I ever made and the only item that went to trash. Mine never worked properly, and after two ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hello Lew, Peter sold me his finished, new-production assembly of extruded aluminum F9 holder, SS suspension, and SS ruby cantilever with OCL diamond-- it is not a re-tip. It is certainly close to the top of all MM/MI I have tried.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Fleib, a brilliant allusion to the Marx bros, and perhaps an apt metaphor for a stylus in motion toward the finish line. As summarized by Wiki:"The climax of the movie, often referenced as one of the greatest football-related scenes in movie histo...
Spdif source switching?
If you have basic DIY soldering skills you can combinehttp://www.twistedpearaudio.com/control/otto.aspxwith a Twisted Pear Placid power supply in an ebay-sourced enclosure.
Does the ESS Sabre Chip have a telltale sound?
It's all about implementation. I've used the Twisted Pear Buffalo DAC with 9018 Sabre Reference in multiple configurations of stereo mode, dual-mono mode, as a voltage source, and(soon) as a current source. Also with different degrees of sophistic...
