Audiophile recording and playback - Tascam DA-3000
@mre28m5Glad that worked out for you. I had forgotten that I used insulating shoulder washer Digikey p/n HS418-ND to float the Belleson metal tab from ground. Now that the audio board mods are breaking in, I’ll take a shot at tracing the circuit o...
Audiophile recording and playback - Tascam DA-3000
@mre28m5... The Bellesons are drop-in replacements for the original regulators. I reused the original thermal pads and screws.BTW, desoldering the stock Suncon electrolytics from the audio board requires a little technique.  The OEM solder is so d...

Audiophile recording and playback - Tascam DA-3000
I’ll sum up my experience after nine months with a DA-3000. The stock unit is capable of very good DSD128 recordings. Quite convincing, if recordings are played back through a better DAC than the one that’s incorporated in the unit. With lite inter...
Paul Hynes Excuses to deliver the power supply SR7 , I Lost my money
As long as Paul is in good health, I don't doubt that you will eventually receive your SR7.
Thiel Owners
@beetlemania When selling to OEMs like Thiel, custom capacitor values are often supplied directly by ClarityCap. I recently gave Rob a OEM price schedule for ClarityCap legacy model SA/630V(as used in the original 2.4SE) and our new, improved mode...

A good magnifier lamp is quite helpful.
Tom Petty: It was an "accidental" OD
@jmcgrogan2 While writing that post I was also thinking of athletic types like Mick, Pete Townshend, James Brown, Springsteen, even Meatloaf. And of Bob Dylan, who continues to tour, albeit in a sendentary position behind the keyboard.
Tom Petty: It was an "accidental" OD
In the case of Prince, decades of stage acrobatics took a toll on the body that mere mortals can’t imagine. Apparently this was the same for Dolores O’Riordan of the Cranberries. I never saw Petty live, but if his performing style was athletic, th...
Thiel is officially closed!!
@prof Now that Thiel is gone I suppose it is fair to mention that Phil Bamberg was doing outsource design work for Thiel during the early transition to the new owners. Thiel later brought in an ex-PSB designer full time who transitioned to the non...
Would love some feedback / Denon DL-S1 / phono match / cart recomendations
Just point the tip of the needle +/- half a mm of the two null points on your protractor, twist the cartridge in the headshell to set the cantilever in parallel with the guide lines, and start sailing.
Would love some feedback / Denon DL-S1 / phono match / cart recomendations
For your first experience with a turntable, I suggest that you avoid a used cartridge. With a new cartridge you can take the variable of cartridge wear out of the equation. You’ll be spending many hours with a protractor, magnifier, eyes, fingers,...

@fsmithjack Why did you lose interest in the Feikert? That has a more sophisticated drive system than the VPI, and armboard options that accommodate pretty much any tonearm including 12".@chakster +1 Luxman PD-444, among of my favs. However it sou...
Would love some feedback / Denon DL-S1 / phono match / cart recomendations
For a time just prior to the product’s discontinuation, the street price for a new DL-S1 was around $500. I purchased one from Comet Supply at that price. Performance is not far off an ART7 (a bit threadbare as you suggest) but with clarity and dy...
