Ess Company
@statman Interesting. My move after a decade with ESS was to Magnepan 3.3R. However, I became less patient with Maggy than with ESS, and progressed very quickly to Wilson and beyond.
Ess Company
I had a long relationship with ESS AMT1 towers 1975-1989. Spent most of my summer income between college years on those speakers. I’ve heard the "new" models at several recent shows. Their performance doesn’t measure up to memories of youth... but...
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning
Thanks for mentioning the Versa-Clean. I just ordered it to compare to the mix of Everclear and Photo-flo that I’m using in my Elmasonic P. After a 20 minute ultrasonic bath I rinse/vac with distilled water and TergiKleen on a VPI 16.5. This evacu...
DIY Jumper Suggestions
Dead soft .999 silver 8awg or 10awg round wire from Rio Grande on-line. No degradation associated with spades or solder joints. The 8awg has the right stiffness to hold a complete curve around the binding post.
How to re-terminate Valhalla
@labtec  I’ve recently sourced all three types of Bocchino XLR and RCA connectors, Tomcat RCA panel connectors, and Mayflower ICs, from their US importer Carl Ruzycki (aka Cromium on Audiogon, 312-402-8388, or carl.ruzycki@gmail.com.)  He is help...
How to re-terminate Valhalla
That's a shame. After moving to Bocchino and Eizz, I've got a bag full of cut off and discarded Neutriks that I could have sent gratis.
How to re-terminate Valhalla
I’m unfamiliar with Valhalla, but with such premium wires use solderless XLRs like Bocchino, EIZZ, or Vampire. You definitely want an end-to-end ground connections at Pin 1.  If all Valhalla offers for that is a shield, then you could add a separa...
Paul Hynes Excuses to deliver the power supply SR7 , I Lost my money
Sorry Kenny, I've compared the SOtM 500 PS to a Hynes SR7EHD powering SOtM and other equipment. The Hynes is worth the wait.
Neil Young - Guitarist
I recall Dylan remarking that the strength of Neil's playing is his intuitive sense of melody.  Interpret those wild distorted solos as simple melodies and it all makes sense.
Audiophile recording and playback - Tascam DA-3000
Just an update that I replaced the remaining stock Jamicon and Suncon electrolytic caps on the power board with Panasonic FC. This produced a modest improvement in SQ in DSD128 recordings, but worthwhile given the small effort of removing the powe...
Best DIY power cable. Why not make?
I may try your recipe for the next one.  So far, I'm using a variation of a VH Audio recipe: hot and neutral in a twisted pair, surrounded by the ground wire in a counter-spiral.  For shielding, that bundle is slipped inside a braided copper tube ...
Best DIY power cable. Why not make?
@williewonka I think that construction with symmetrical gauges and equal quality conductors on all three legs is appropriate for a balanced power configuration. With a balanced power transformer, ground is separate from neutral, and +/-60V is deve...
Bluesound Node 2 as a preamp?
In a modest streaming bedroom system, I use the Node 2 with good results direct into an Acurus amp and a pair of Jamo bookshelf speakers.  You just can't beat the compactness and good quality of this simple set-up.  Does anyone hear improvement wi...
Whats playing on your system today?
The recent Grundman LP re-releases of Pink Floyd sound fantastic.  Worth revisiting even obscurities like More and Zabriskie Point soundtracks.  I had to repurchase all of it.
Roger Waters Amused To Death
The militant pacifism of Amused to Death was a bulls eye, as is Is This the Life We Really Want.  Neither is palliative music, but once a generation or so a musical dose of castor oil is a fitting wake up call. Thank you Roger.
