Improve volume from turntable with a new cartridge?
Tough to coax a vinyl system to sound better than CD. Tough to listen to CDs once you do. The vinyl obsession is expensive. Like a very beautiful woman, you have to know that even if you can swing it, it's going to be very expensive.
Best Tubed Preamp For A Warm, Rich Sound, Yet Still Detailed and Agile

Charles, Phil,I do believe the recommendations from the two of you have considerable merit. Recently was able to hear SET amplification  for the first time at a fellow music lover's home and came away impressed. Along with the suggestions you prov...
What year did tube lose to SS
I was a heavy listener when it happened, probably 69-70. It brought down the cost of watts considerably and those inefficient speakers often came to life. They certainly weren't as musical but at that time we were attempting to break windows and m...
Has anyone had experiences good or bad with speaker isolation or isolation in general ?
I use Star Sound under my speakers and amps, but Herbies under my rack. So very different for the two. Definitely better in each case, but It's probably system and room [floor?] dependent.

Sorry for the delay Phil, room is 17' wide, 21' long and just short of 9' ceiling. Listening position around 11' from speakers. My system is listed in the Virtual Systems. Here's the thing: I have this thing about clipping, and from posters on her...
Are You Sorbothane Experienced?
Terry9,I believe you mentioned in another thread that you used a sticky damping material on your Trans-Fi. Could you please elaborate? Thanks
getting into vinyl
It's apparent by your system that you're accustomed to high quality reproduction. It will take some doing and expenditure to equal your present setup. When I got into vinyl about three years ago I decided to wait until the system that I could affo...

Looking to make a major purchase, an amp for my Def 4s. The Black Shadows seem to carry the day for a few users here but I question the power available. When I run the volume up, and I occasionally do, will I ever run into a situation where I have...

Some interesting perspectives here. I had not really considered the Cary 805, and looking at them perhaps they would be a good fit. Whatever the amp, it has to be musical and have good bass.

The product is the Triode Corp TRX-M845 which has garnered pretty good reviews. It's out of my range though.  It doesn’t appear to be China cheap and nothing I have read indicates Chinese production. However, often the origin is concealed. I’m hav...
It is a good idea to purchase a vintage tube pre-amp.
I have a Zesto Leto just like the one listed here on Audiogon. You can run it balanced or single ended. It's not the euphonic tube pre of vintage make but the company makes first rate electronics. The output impedance stays low so a long run to yo...
Tube rolling and SAC Glowmaster KT88?
I'm looking at this company's GM70 PSET amp. The price is right but I would have a huge problem laying out that amount of money and having any noise,[hum] as part of the deal. The PSETs are mono blocks and along with the purchase I may go for thei...
Why Single-Ended?
Some one please explain to me how an SET amp can be fully differential. I see some SET amps that are offered as balanced. Could one of you explain the circuitry in the amp that makes the use of XLR connections advantageous?
