Fleetwood Deville vs Wilson Sound
Not sure why it’s surprising to you that a top notch speaker requires world class electronics. @audphile1 This is another big myth, a lie propagated by certain manufacturers. Here are some examples. I used to have the TAD Reference from A.J...
Fleetwood Deville vs Wilson Sound
@audphile1 , I am not a stranger to the Wilson brand, i owned one of the original WAMMs for many many years. At some point, a guy has to wonder where the hell is the money getting spent when a manufacturer charges a measly 90k and above for a spea...
Fleetwood Deville vs Wilson Sound
@deep_333 design decisions are made based on what sounds best and Wilson Audio manufactures their own components. When there’s better quality and more effective to source parts from external entities, then a decision is made to do so. It is a sma...
Need stand recommendation for Gershman studio IIs
@berner99   1) Don't spend $1500 on stands for speakers that cost $3650. That is the pathway of  dudes with IQ below room temperature. 2) Isoacoustics /isolation wouldn't be a bad idea.
TV power cords; Money well spent, or money wasted?
I am not exactly a 'videophile', but, I get discernible results from a cheaper AQ power conditioner with a couple of its outlet filters optimized for video (one of Garth Powell's toys). The TV  gets used for some demanding games...gpu ray tracing ...
Borresen Loudspeakers
Bookshelf speakers are deficient in the base area. Most people I know who bought these things end up buying subwoofers. Also the drivers are too narrow, I’ve never why drivers keep getting smaller and smaller and smaller. Their marketing hype is ...
Burning CDs of downloaded music
I would highly recommend that you don’t cheap out/end up buying a barrel bottom drive unit. Get this Pioneer unit...very affordable by audiophile standards (approx. 300 bucks). Some of the features on this unit are very useful and Pioneer contin...
Anyone See Downside to an Ionizer blowing on Turntable?
wind across your tonearm will cause more miss tracking than the potential benefits Any speaker drivers moving in a room, subwoofer drivers moving, the music playing, etc can become an impediment to the pristine spinning of vinyl. The ultra soph...

@rischa , In general, if you want to catch on to things like that..... - Get a pair of flat nearfield studio monitors with significant clarity and detail like the Yamaha HS8, HS7 or similar (Siiting nearfield at 3ft away can get much of the room'...
Started with $1k speakers … what now?
@deep_333  , just to clarify (but not to start an argument) you are saying that if OP wants a significent sonic improvement over is current 1k speakers, he will have to spend more than 5k? @immatthewj , Yes, as of 2023/ 2024, guys like Andrew J...

Good Speakers for Rock and Roll Under 15K
@mofojo Big myths die hard. So this does not surprise me- I get pushback on it all the time. But it comes down to something very simple, which is can you find a designer who can say what parameters exactly will favor a certain genre? I’ve been d...
What to ask when buying used speakers?
It may make sense to hit the used market for the following categories: a) "High End": Typically, a 60k speaker can be bought for 30k and so on...guys who buy such speakers tend to take care of them. When your done with it, you can sell it for ab...
Good Speakers for Rock and Roll Under 15K
That is a strange opinion. I have had quite a few speakers, large and small that were very satisfying with every type of music. I don’t know what your yardstick is...a fraternity beer blast? @roxy54 "Very satisfying" eh?...My yardstick is tha...
Good Speakers for Rock and Roll Under 15K
I think you might have missed the mark. Truly good or excellent speakers will sound good with any type of music. This of course assumes that the system can provide the needed power, and finesse. Brands that can do this: Dynaudio, Magico, Wilson, ...
