Better amp or better tubes?
@emil emil,What do you NOT like about the current sound -or- is it just curiosity / upgrade-itis?  Other factors that impacted my QS amps negatively or positively, assuming your speakers are good, there  are other things to review too:-Your preamp...
Best tube preamp for Quicksilver V4 tube mono's (newest KT150 version)
@audioconnection I would make sure you try the latest Quicksilver 12 AT7 line stage and put more into your front end....Agree with @audioconnection - I recommended the same to a few friends in the past few months, and both of them are super happy ...
Quicksilver amp owners
The 8417 Triode amp was made over 28 years ago. Discontinued. Made only two years from 1990-1992. Some folks still using them. Several new amps since then.

The Hexfreds just added a little faster/tighter bass in my former V12R.  I felt having the right coupling caps and interconnects was most rewarding. Overall, the stock EL34 Ruby (Shuguang made EL34BSTR) tubes were great.  If you change too many th...

Bookshelf speaker for an apartment
@rbstehno 04-19-2020 4:52pmthe focal and b&w’s don’t have any low end. If you like Totem, get a used pair of the Model 1’s or spend a little more and get a used pair of the Hawks or Forests. Then in the future if you want to upgrade your amp, ...

@oldhvymechHe was a Mac tech for his daily job, but did mods and built amps all kinds of crazy rebuilds and such on his own.  Retired now.  Built all his own amps, that kinda guy. I helped him on design and build of three pairs of large horn Altec...

re: Heat, my local tech-friend (40yr Mcintosh tech, Repair/Modifier guy) was adamant I did not need to run the bias up to spec, had me running it as low as 200ma per side. Felt it was a waste of energy and extra heat for no reason.  I tried it at ...

They all pop up for sale periodically, particularly during summer time and function even better over the winter season. With twelve power tubes and four input/driver tubes, the collective sixteen tubes in a V12R also functions well as a great room...

Yes. Three versions.   Early V12, then V12i for 'Inspired",  & V12R for "Race".  Most "R" models were Red chassis.  The "R" had the larger "Blue Wire" transformer and the change on input tubes, the 6922 to 12BZ7 in particular. Some people sent...

Really good coupling caps  do influence the outcome. After I did mine on my former V12R and now current Mono Tube amps, I could THEN truly hear the differences with input/output tube changes -and- interconnect changes too.
Best replacements for KT99A tubes?
@_rossbowerdecooney, Awesome, thank you! I have seen some people recommend the KT-90 or even KT-120 for this amp. I’d feel more comfortable using something written down in the owners manual, but I don’t know enough to really compare these options....
Best replacements for KT99A tubes?
@_rossbower_@decooney This is for a pair of SLM-100’s. You remind me I need to track down an original owners manual... I’m definitely planning to get matched quads. Any thoughts on EL34 vs. KT88? I had the sense that KT88’s were higher quality som...
Best replacements for KT99A tubes?
@_rossbowerIs this for the SLM-100 or SLAM-100 monos by chance? If so, shows in the OM they originally came with 6550s. Original OM mentions max bias adjustment of 175ma for all four tubes per amp, with potential use of EL34, KT88, KT99s. Maybe go...
