Dried up Ferrofluid?
If I have a pair of brand-new-in-the-box unused tweeters as spares for a speaker sold 20 years ago, is it likely that they would still be "as new" or might they also need the ferrofluid replaced due to age?
The sound quality from DACs - is it all the same?
Even if you think the sound differences are subtle in your system, consider basing your choice on how easy it is to get service if something goes wrong, whether or not the power cord is detachable IEC without a wall wart, etc. Even those two param...
Looking for nearfield passive speakers that are warm and rich
A desk is no substitute for heavy speaker stands. I would only keep that budget if you can get them off the desk (beyond the desk). Find where the speakers sound best in the room off the desk on good stands and only then move your desk to where th...
To power strip or not
Wiremold L10320   No filtering, no breakers, no power switch.  Just clean power, as recommended by Naim.
A decent integrated amp under 2K ...
Don't rule out integrated amps with "too much power".  That's what the volume control is for.
Upgraded McCormack DNA-1 or Dennis Had Inspire SEP?
I vote Inspire.  Mine was wonderful. Should have kept it but changed to less sensitive speakers and sold it to get SS.  Mistake!
What is wrong with my system?
Still no room pics and dimensions so just a timewasting guessing game.
Parasound Zpre3
I wondered if anyone could comment on how good the channel balance is at low volumes. Especially if you turn it down to the lower parts of the rotation is it still even left and right?  Does it drop one channel before the other when turning it rig...
Stands or no stands
I owned Heresy II and when on their short risers the images they produced were too short.  Like I was listening to smurf bands.  If I kept them I would have used them with subs and heavy duty speaker stands.
Barn speakers
Passive PA speakers from Yamaha, JBL, EV, etc.
Can Any Bookshelf Speaker Be Used Nearfield?
The big problem here is using a desk for speaker stands.  Not only is that a reflective and vibrational nightmare but it also prevents you from moving the speakers around in the room for the best sound.  Use sturdy stands in front of the desk.  Th...

Audio grade USB cables
@ robpriore: why has the USB Disruptor tripled in price from $49 to $149 in the 4 years since you started this topic? Also in what way does this product work any different than simply putting a piece of tape over the 5V pin if your DAC doesn’t need...
Speaker advice for listening to Blues music
I would start with some DSP or aftermarket tone control if you want any poor recordings to sound better than they should.  That way it could be switched out as needed, instead of having the coloration built into the speakers.
High End Amp Price Collapse musings
Not so deep into the future we may have trouble finding brand new cheap Class AB power amplifiers.  If anything, it might be wise to buy one now if that's what you might want down the road.  Of course, a used Class AB might be available <$1000 ...
