My favorite Steely Dan song has to be...
Hey Nineteen
S/N ratio vs. dishes and stupid cats.
Why would anyone want a creature that leaves crap everywhere and uncontrollably produces loud sharp noises? That's why I never wanted children!
tube integrated for Vandersteen 2's
This is probably not the advice you want to hear, but if you have 2K to invest I would move out the Vandersteens which are unsuitable for a room this small rather than invest the money on an amp specific for them. They are classic speakers but nee...
What is the best sounding QSC power amp
They make some good stuff but the more money they are the more likely a consumer power amp will be best. Big factor is fan noise. I did a little research and would probably go for the RMX 2450 or RMX 1850 HD if I went QSC but I would want to hear ...
System Hum Question
Have you tried swapping out the interconnects for some with better shielding? Checked you electrical outlets for proper grounding?Tried swapping out your preamp/power amp power cords?Try hooking up a CD player direct to power amp and check for hum?
Preamp recommendation for Bryston 4B-NRB
I would say a used NAD C 162 would be your best bet.

difference between an active and a passive preamp?
I have found that my system when using some passives is more succeptible to noise (ie. RFI, grounding issues, etc).
Does a tube preamp warm up sound of SS amp?
I think that is a popular config because the preamp tubes don't need biasing and the tubes last longer. I like leaving as much stuff on all the time (except in summer w/thunderstorms) so I would be more inclined to want to turn off a tube power am...
Switched From Tubes To SS???Glad You Did???
Freediver,If you want predictable expenses, a used Bryston (with what is left on their 20 year warranty) would be worth considering if you can find one you like.
Two things about tubes
Don't be afraid to name names guys. It's nice your amps are quiet but how can we find a quiet one unless we know which ones they are?
Is it possible to get Hi-end sound ??
You have to be constantly watching the ads to get the best deals before someone else does. Yesterday (but not on Audiogon)I saw an Adcom Tuner/Pre, Adcom 545 power, Sony CD, a cassette deck, Celestion SL6S speakers with stands all for $250 total. ...
