First foray into separate 2-channel amp, 200wpc
Sounds like a nice amp but isn't that way over your price range of $350-450 or did you get a bargoon? I was going to suggest the Yamaha P-S Series:http://www.yamahaproaudio.com/global/en/products/poweramps/ps_series/specifications.jspThe P2500S an...
Help me make sense of what I'm hearing
Probably not what you want to hear but your system will shine with small-scale music, not metal or classical rock. For that you need some horns, especially with a nice little amp. Preferably horns with a fairly linear impedance. If sources are all...
My Final Amplifier Purchase - What Would You Buy?
If you are worried about a fixed income someday, start reducing your expenses now, starting with this amp. Consider Class D for cheap operation in the future. You can leave it on all the time. Go cheap and if you want to make changes in the future...
Frustrated with the sound of my system
Take all the equipment out of your listening room and bring it all to another room that has proper dimensions and allows for symmetrical placement. Otherwise you are just wasting your time and money. Don't spend a dime until you do this.
Onkyo A-9555 amp + Totem Model 1
Thanks for your comments.Actually, Onkyo A-9555 is available at $380 from Accessories4less.I'm not seeing that.
What's the best pre-amp to use with the Acurus
cont'd (couldn't edit post)...a tube preamp with a low output impedance. Maybe a Quicksilver or something.
What's the best pre-amp to use with the Acurus
After having used an RL10 with the one I used to own I would recommend a tube preamp.
STI-1000 Overrated or not?
You could try moving your speakers a couple inches closer to room boundaries. It may be telling you things about your room you weren't aware of before.
Finally saved 3000 what is a good setup.
Used Benchmark DAC-1 Pre or HDR + the best powered studio monitors (ie. Mackie, Dynaudio, etc.) you can afford with what's left.
Dual volume control - it should be standard
I prefer single volume control on preamp + left and right gain controls on the power amp. Preamps with L + R level controls can be hard to match channel levels if they are not stepped and accurate. As a test, try matching (continuously variable) L...
Your best ''outstanding'' products in last 5 yrs?
Peavey PV 215 floor-standing speakers. About US$600/pair.http://www.peavey.com/products/proaudio/loudspeakers/pv/index.cfm/item/114378/PV%26nbsp%3B215.htmlSilly cheap. Big warm sound that is never fatiguing or compressed, even at crazy volumes. Th...
Need more headroom
High power and sensitive speakers can allow music to flow with a lack of compression that is seductive. Even at reasonable volumes. You wont' go back!My room: 11' x 17' x 8'Speakers: 98dB sensitivityPower amplifier: 775 wpc
The most beautiful Integrated Tube amp?
I would look at Decware Zen Torii:http://www.decware.com/newsite/TORII.htmLooks good and lifetime warranty.
Are Rotel amps and preamps any good?
I've only owned 2 Rotel pieces, a used older Rotel RC870BX preamp and a new RB1070 power amp. I didn't like either. Amp had fake heatsinks and sounded boomy. Preamp was bought used and very cheap so can't complain for $50.
Words From the Wise
1a. Use BIG, sensitive floor-standing speakers. 1b. Don't get speakers that go too low for your room.
