Sony SCD XA5400ES tube rolling?
Modding the work of a modder seems a bit crazy to me, but perhaps it explains the need to have a fine player modded in the first place. It's really a tinker toy.db
What is the Latest Word on Proceed?
I think what Thesoundhouse contends is true only if you send the amp to Harmon for repair. You should enquire locally about repair shops. Furthermore, the likelihood of needing a repair is small.db
SACD via HDMI on Oppo BDP95?
I thought the only reason buy a $1000 BDP 95 rather than a $500 BDP 93 is for superior analog output, so external DSD processing would seem irrelevant.db
Stereo Imaging
A strange phenomenon I noticed is that the soundstage seems to extend deeper behind the mains with multichannel recordings. I don't have an explanation for the effect.db
Stereo Imaging
I use a center channel for HT but have tried 4.1 as well. Frankly, I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference now that the HF driver in my center speaker matches those in the mains. The speech seems to track the images projected on the screen. But...
Who is planning to buy the oppo-95 and...?
Admranger,I assume your Rotel receiver doesn't handle HDMI, otherwise a single HDMI cable would seem preferable to six analog RCAs for 5.1, especially given your 80/20 movie bias. If you don't care about lossless codecs, can't you use a single RCA...
Hearing loss Temporary or more permanent?
Re A & C weighting: A-weighting is contoured to replicate the hearing sensitivity data of Fletcher and Munson; C-weighting is essentially flat. So you might use the A scale to estimate how loud a sound is and the C scale to determine its level...
Is One Subwoofer Really Not Appropriate For 2-Chnl
I got carried away in a dialog that really was off topic. Sorry.db
Is One Subwoofer Really Not Appropriate For 2-Chnl
Bryon. One of the most reliable phenomena in psychoacoustics is what Is know as the masking level difference (MLD). Present a mid-freuquncy sinusoid in correlated noise to both ears and adjust the level until it becomes inaudible; flip the phase of...
Is One Subwoofer Really Not Appropriate For 2-Chnl
Bryon,I quit following the literature around 1970. I was an admirer of the Jeffries model of binaural processing, but a study I did using computer generated signals and narrow bands of noise was inconclusive about the phase relationships of the si...
Is One Subwoofer Really Not Appropriate For 2-Chnl
Bryon,It's been decades since I did research in binaural processing, but I wondered why someone from a university in South Carolina would publish such an article in other than JASA. Some of the contentions about levels of neural processing of temp...
Kef Kube equalizer
Unsound & Klipschking, The KEF museum claims the 103/4 has useful LF to 50 Hz, so setting the crossover to a sub at 60 Hz might seem prudent, although I doubt 80 Hz is too high for most high quality subs. I've tried both with my 104/2s, and no...
Hearing loss Temporary or more permanent?
Bifwynne, as a general rule if it feels comfortable to you it's probably OK. If you think you're pushing it, turn the level down a bit. You might start by finding a level where soft jazz (e.g. Bill Evans), Bach, and Mozart feel right, then look at...
Hearing loss Temporary or more permanent?
Bifwynne, I knew some of the people who were on the scientific committees that made the recommendations to OSHA.Stevecham, I think you're doing the right thing by keeping peaks lower, but you need to know neither the auditory system nor other neur...
Kef Kube equalizer
I have a pair of KEF 104.2s, four 102.2s, and four 102s. I don't use my KUBEs with any of them. Instead, I use two Velodyne HGS-15s with the 104.2s and 102s (2.1 & 5.1) and an HGS-10 with the stacked 102.2s (2.1). Cross over to the sub at 80 H...
