How fast is the Oppo BDP-93?
I was tempted to say it'll consistently turn 2 minute laps at Laguna Seca, but in fact it's fast enough I never notice the load time when playing a Blu-ray disc. Loading and playing CDs and SACDs is so quick you barely have time to sit down if you...
Adding a sub - what will I loose?
Well Al and Irv, I suppose I should be embarrassed by your uncovering what I didn't know about subs being driven by speaker-level inputs, but in fact I learned something. Thanks.Johnny, I certainly agree with your point about needing tight control...
Adding a sub - what will I loose?
"This also flies in the face of conventional wisdom, but I've had a couple of subs that actually sounded better using the speaker connections than the RCAs."Doesn't that imply that the main amp is superior to the amp in the sub, even within the li...
Cary 11a vs Anthem D2
The Cary 11a recognizes PCM output from an Oppo 93 as DSD, thus there is no bass management. Does the D2 have a similar problem?db
Does a center channel have to match the front spke
My LRs are a pair of KEF 104/2s with dome tweeters. I used a KEF 200C center channel with a Uni-Q tweeter. That arrangement worked fine except for opera on Blu-ray, where a disconnect was obvious when a singer moved about the stage. I replaced the...
Solid state warm up?
Phoenix,If you leave the amp in standby mode, I'd think that obviates the need for warmup. I suspect the "mushy" sound lies elsewhere. The increased detail and subtlety you say you got seem at odds with mushy.db
Pre/Pro Advice for ATC Active HT
The Cary 11a has balanced outputs for 7.1 and a balanced input for analog that can be either passed through our digitized.db
Pre/Pro Advice for ATC Active HT
I bought a used Cary 11a because of its audio quality. As you probably know from reading the 11a/v thread at AVS, the room correction on the chip Cary uses has been a major source of complaint. My 11a manual recommends a tape measure and SPL meter...
Looking for processor recomendations
I pass video and audio from my DirecTV HD-DVR through a DVDO Edge that sends 1080p to the projector and Dolby Digital to the Cary 11a. For convenience, I also pass video from my Oppo BDP-93 through the Edge, although the Oppo has video processing ...
Looking for processor recomendations
Some posters have claimed the Cary upgrade has cured a few bugs as well. When I was doing my internet research before buying a month old 11a, I got the distinct impression that the sound quality of the Anthem D2 wasn't quite up to that of the 11a,...
Looking for processor recomendations
I replaced a Proceed PAV/PDSD in my main system with a Cary 11a to get HDMI and the lossless codecs, while maintaining excellent audio quality. The 11a is a bit buggy, but the sound is indeed excellent, and the bugs are those I can easily live wit...
Subwoofer crossovers
I think Edorr may have misunderstood my question. I use a pair of 15" subs with room correction, and I agree they are important for portraying small jazz groups. I was asking about the ability of monitors to handle the dynamic range of a large orc...
Subwoofer crossovers
The idea of monitors and subs is appealing, but I wonder about the dynamic range of monitors. I think they might be great for most of the music I enjoy, small jazz and chamber groups, but what about the occasional excursion into large orchestratio...
Subwoofer crossovers
In case it's relevant to my previous post, the sub output from the Cinema 11a goes through a Velodyne SMS-1 to a pair of HGS-15s using XLR connectors. The 11a has movie and music modes. I use 80 Hz crossover to the mains for movies and 60 Hz or no...
Subwoofer crossovers
The posts in this thread suggest you folks are knowledgable about bass management. It seems as though SACD discs output as DSD from my Sony XA5400ES or Oppo BDP-93 to my Cary Cinema 11a lack bass management. The subs are not invoked. OTOH, HDCD di...
