Recording quality by decade Mapman,I've been comparing the sound of vinyl played on a TD 124 with SME Series III arm and Ortofon SME H30 cartridge with that of SACDs played on an Oppo BDP-105. Both sources are analog into a Cary Cinema 11a set to bypass. Specifically, the vi...
Sony SCD-XA5400ES CD Player I think OP should include the Oppo BDP-105 in the comparison. I have both a BDP-105 and an XA5400ES in my rack. Both are superb, though they sound a bit different. Broadly generalized, the Oppo seems a bit more detailed, the Sony a bit smoother. P...
Proceed PAV/PDSD HT Processors Good? I replaced my Proceed PAV/PDSD with a Cary Cinema 11a for the lossless codecs and HDMI connectivity. I now have an Oppo BDP-105 that has an HDMI port for the HD-DVR and an asynchronous USB port for the Mac Mini. I use the balanced stereo and unbal...
Oppo BDP 95 vs BDP 105... Bacardi,My Cary 11a processor, Proceed HPA 2 & 3 amps, and KEF Reference 107/2 mains and 102 center and surrounds must not comprise a revealing system. I've been comparing the sound of vinyl played using my Thorens TD 124 and SME Series III ar...
Oppo 105 and Cary 11 Surround Processor I wouldn't argue for either the Anthem or Cary processors if the Oppo 105 provides sufficient ports. I doubt the Anthem provides room correction if the input is analog and re-digitization bypassed.I use a Velodyne SMS-1 bass manager to provide roo...
Oppo 105 and Cary 11 Processor Sgr asks, "Should I purchase a state of the art video and surround processor and get the Oppo 103 instead?"No.db
Oppo 105 and Cary 11 Surround Processor I use an Oppo 105 with a Cary 11a. Some previous informations needs to be corrected. The 105 sets speaker distance in quarter foot intervals; subs can be farther away than mains; bass management is available if you set SACD output to PCM. The soun...
DAC to replace Sony 5400 You might consider an Oppo 105. It has HDMI and asynchronous USB ports, and plays a wide variety of discs. I still have my XA5400ES in the setup, but I think the Oppo 105 sounds at least as good as the 5400ES with CDs and SACDs, maybe better.db
Velodyne - SPL or HGS? I have two HGS-15 with SMS-1 bass manager in one setup, an HGS-10 in another. None has hiss nor any other unwanted sound. I think using an SMS-1 makes the HGS series equivalent to the DD series.db
Which would be a better surround processor. Paraneer,I was suggesting OP might use something like an Oppo 105 rather than a processor if his setup is simple enough to be accommodated by single HDMI and asynchronous USB inputs. The last sentence in my previous post may have been clearer had ...
Which would be a better surround processor. I agree about lossless codecs, but I've found I prefer analog output from my Oppo BDP-105, and if the 8 cables are bundled they are not the mess I envisioned. I also have 2 XLR cables for stereo. The BDP-105 with its HDMI and asynchronous USB input...
Oppo BDP 95 vs BDP 105... I replaced our 95 with a 105 a few days ago. Both audio and video seem a bit better, but to be fair analog audio and HDMI video cables have been reconnected and an iScan Duo removed from the video path. Audio and video are superb. There was a lip s...
HDCD Decoding ? I've played HDCD recordings, especially the Reference recordings Stravinsky and Big Band Basie, many time with my Oppo 95 and noticed no loudness difference compared to CDs. Those two recordings are superb. On a good setup, Big Band Basie has a gr...
Oppo customer service I had a problem using my DVDO iScanDuo as an HDMI switch. The iScan Duo wouldn't latch onto the 95. Oppo recommended a number of resets for video compatibility; Dan Wemmer at Cary suggested HDCP handshake could be the problem and recommended a Lum...
Oppo BDP 95 vs BDP 105... Admranger, The role of the Cary is minimal with the Oppo 95, but it does process HDMI audio from my Sony XA5400ES. Video: The Cary has no video processing capability; it just passes video. I'm currently using a DVDO iScan Duo as an HDMI switch, so... |
