Parasound JC3 or Ayre P-5xE
This thread has been inactive for over 18 months. Few seem to have listened to the JC-3 as of the last post. What's the current opinion? I've been looking for a JC-3, but perhaps I should also look for a P-5xe. I'll use either with an Ortofon SME ...
Sony 9100ES, Oppo 103 105
Thanks, Jdub39. What amp are you using for the surrounds? I'd really like to try an 8801, but I'd feel obligated if the local dealer did let me take one home. The local guy I bought the Cary from seems to have connections, so maybe he can line up ...
Sony 9100ES, Oppo 103 105
Jdub39,My question was did you try 5.1 or 7.1 analog directly from the 105 to the A 21? If I understand your last post, and I'm not sure I do, are you saying you prefer XLR stereo through the 8801 to XLR directly from the 105 to your A21 or that t...
Sony 9100ES, Oppo 103 105
Jdub39,For a complete comparison did you try the 105 analog to the A21, using analog stereo for the front LR of 7.1? I can believe that Audyssey might provide an advantage with multiple speakers, though I wonder if set up using a tape measure and ...
Sony 9100ES, Oppo 103 105
A prepro needs to be pretty damn good to better the analog of a 105. I think most of those prepros cost around $10K. I think the AV 8801 represents very good value, but I doubt it's in that top category. OTOH, if room correction is important, that...
Sony 9100ES, Oppo 103 105
I concur with RW points. The analog section of the 105 is superior to that of the 103, but If OP is certain he will not want to use analog in the future, then the 103 is the less expensive buy.Re Sony 9000ES and 9100ES. I've had both, the 9000ES i...
SME Series III or SME 3009
I came across this old thread and saw my post at the end of the year. I found a local source for Thorens expertise from whom I bought a beautiful TD 124 that he had mechanically restored -- it didn't need cosmetic restoration. He did a proper setu...
Sub best at high crossover?
Vicdamone, IIRC it used to be common practice to use the 3 dB down point when quoting frequency response limits. But that may no longer be the practice and it may never have been universal. Frequency response tends to drop like a rock below the 3 ...
Sub best at high crossover?
O holter, this thread is getting silly. You've received rational advice and if it feels good do it advice. What is it you're looking for? I personally use a pair of Velodyne HGS-15s with an SMS-1 bass manager in a medium size room, so my experienc...
Has anyone bought the OPPO 105 and has an opinion
You may need a monitor for set up, e.g. if setting crossover to a sub with the 105 rather than a processor, but I usually listen to music without turning on the projector.db
Adding sub question
I don't understand the posts of Bo1972. What does fast mean in terms of a sub aimed at reproducing LF? Why stereo for subs rather than mode smoothing, given the pyschoacoustic literature on LF localization? If I were OP, I'd pay attention to Al, an...
OPPO BDP-95
The Oppo BDP-105 has no fan, but the fan on our 95 never bothered me. When we got the 105 we moved the 95 to our living room.db
Need help with splitting XLR OUTPUT
In rereading it, I realize the 2nd paragraph of my previous post doesn't make much sense without further explanation about the particular setup that is not worth going into.db
Need help with splitting XLR OUTPUT
Thanks, Al. I think I'll leave well enough alone as you suggest. Oppo told me that 0.1 is sent to the subs regardless of the settings for the speakers, so I use the stereo output for the LR front of 7.1, because Oppo gives stereo special analog pr...
Need help with splitting XLR OUTPUT
I use a pair of Velodyne HGS-15s with an SMS-1 bass manager. All the connections of the Cary 11a, SMS-1, and the two subs are XLR. Velodyne suggested I just split the XLR output of the SMS-1 to the two subs. It's an easy solution and the one I'm u...
