LS50 and Classical
Kenjit is wrong.  I was listening to the 2nd movement of Beethoven's 7th this evening thinking the LS50s sounded very good.  Source was Roon via Ethernet to ultraRendu, Ayre QB-9 DSD DAC, and Ayre A7e integrated.  I have a pair of Velodyne HGS-10s...
LS50 + Amp Power
The OP might do well to checkout the new LS50 Wireless IIs and matching sub.  $2500 plus sub -- don't know cost of sub -- could eliminate concern about matching electronics and speakers.  Darko's review suggests KEF has done it well.  It makes a n...
LS50 + Amp Power
I think reputable companies rate RMS continuous throughout the pass band with both channels driven simultaneously, not maximum wattage at a certain frequency for a short period of time. There is a difference between watts and gain. IIRC, both Dyna...

LS50 + Amp Power
For a while I used LS50s with a Parasound A21 and was pleased with the sound. Then I tired them a lesser A23 and was less pleased with the sound. They seem sensitive to the amp that drives them.  Strangely though, I really liked the sound with vin...
LS50 + Amp Power
Jon Atkinson used Parasound JC-1 monoblocks (800 watts @ 4 Ω) with LS50 Metas for his review in Stereophile. But LS50s sound very good with my Ayre A7e integrated (120 watts @ 4Ω).  I haven't tried pairing my JC-1s with the LS50s.
Amp for kef reference 1
I'm using an Ayre VX-5 Twenty to drive my Reference 1s, and it seems to be a good pairing.  I had thought them best suited to jazz and baroque, but adding a pair of bass-managed Velodyne HGS-15s crossed at 80 Hz produced the big sound for large or...
Good quality wireless, active speakers ??
After watching the Darko review of the KEF LS50 Wireless II setup I'm tempted to try it, perhaps with the aim of selling my Ayre electronics and KEF Reference 1s.  Over 95% of my music is sourced by Roon.  HDMI from Cox cable now goes to Audio Eng...
Any way to listen to wav or high bit files with anything approaching audiophile sound?
OP might also explore Roon with something like a Senore microRendu endpoint. I think there are some fine inexpensive DACs that could be used with a Roon setup or with Blue Node.
Are the really pricey HT Pre Amps worth it?
auxinput, the Parasound JC 1, 2, and 3 stuff has been boxed waiting to be sold for several years, replaced by Ayre KX-5/20 and VX5/20.  I've always used HDMI input to the Bryston SP3.  So I really can't answer your question.  Based on Kal Rubinson...
Prices here and on ebay.....what do you notice/think?
OP, I've noticed and wondered.db
What's my ideal music server? Read and recommend please
Before I got the QX-5/20 to use with Ethernet, I used USB from iMac to Ayre DX-5 DSD for Roon, with balanced analog to Ayre KX-5/20 preamp. That combination sounded very good. Like so many dictums, "you shouldn’t use USB combining out of a commute...
pre-amps for home theatre....whats your preference?
I prefer to use a preamp with by-pass capability with a processor. Use the preamp for stereo music and for the front two channels of surround. I’ve used a Parasound JC-2 BP with a Bryston SP3 and now an Ayre KX-5 Twenty with the SP3. But that may ...
Roots, ie: how did your music/sound/audio life/listening begin?
iI suppose it was my favorite aunt's RCA red seal recording of Jose Iturbi playing the Chopan Heroique Polonaise that first got my attention.  But it really was a neighbor's JBL C34 rear-loaded corner horn, Gerard changer, and amp with a separate ...
Madrigal Proceed PAV Schematics
IIRC I bought my PAV probably in the '80s.  It and a matching stereo amp replaced my Marantz 18 receiver.  Five of those amps, the PAV, and the 18 are sitting in a rack, unused for decades.  The PAV was replaced by a Cary Cinema for HT, then a Par...
