Does speaker-level input to sub by pass its electronics?
Bob, I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't see the post was a quote and when I checked out the link I discovered the extensive coverage of using an A7e with high-level inputs.  Also I was sorry to learn that Al is no longer with us.  I have valued his...
Does speaker-level input to sub by pass its electronics?
Al, I think you warned me about that once before but I forgot. Given I mostly listen to jazz and baroque in the living room, and the unaided LS50s do a nice job of the bass, I’ll satisfy my lust for pipe organ music and Mahler in the media room wh...
Does speaker-level input to sub by pass its electronics?
Duke, thanks for the explanation.  It gives me much more understanding of high-level input to a sub, and confidence in using it.Erik, I have no interest in bypassing the amp or HGS function.  To the contrary, I was concerned that speaker-level inp...
Does speaker-level input to sub by pass its electronics?
I've used HGS-15s & 10s for years, but not with high-level input.  It's the high-gain servo function I want to preserve.  I'm not familiar with how high-level input functions.  A local is selling an HGS-15 that I might use with the Ayre A7e to...
Do you use a Subwoofer when listening to stereo?
mijostyn, the Ayre preamp has two pair of analog outputs.  Are you implying that using a splitter to mix the output of one pair is likely to effect the output of the other pair?  I suppose an alternative is to take the second output from the Ayre ...
Do you use a Subwoofer when listening to stereo?
The Velodyne SMS-1 acoustic room corrector has a single XLR LFE input.  Is it OK to use a splitter to mix the LR outputs from the preamp for input to the SMS-1 -- assuming full-range preamp output into an LFE input is not a problem?db
Preamp LR to sub?
Thanks noromance, that was the essence of my question.  On reflection, I realized that must be so.  I was confused because the Bryston SP3 processor has a single sub output in addition to LR outputs whereas the Ayre KX-5/20 preamp has only LR outp...
Preamp LR to sub?
The KEFs run full range.  I was asking about settings for the HGS-15s.  They are set by the SMS-1s.
Ayre QX-5 vs Lumin vs dCS Bartok
I use Roon via ethernet to my QX-5/20, with balanced analog to a KX-5/20 preamp and VX-5/20 amp. Of course the sound is great, but just clicking play on my computer and watching the AyreLink turn everything on is a fascinating convenience. A DX-5 ...
Empty canvas: recommendations on blending audio and moving watching
I don’t want to use high energy for TV, so I’ve settled on an Audio Engine 2+ for TV, saving the big stuff for Blue-ray and music. The sound with the AE 2+ is amazingly good. For Blue-ray, HDMI video goes to the projector, HDMI audio to a Bryston ...
Beating a dead horse.... SACD
jafant, IIRC Kal Rubinson thought the Sony 5400ES was superior in his Stereophile review.db
Beating a dead horse.... SACD
Forget the SCD-XA5400ES I recommended.  They're listed near $1K in the Blue Book and for some reason seem to be on the rise with the most recent being $2K.db
Beating a dead horse.... SACD
OP might want to consider a Sony 5400ES. IIRC, they were thought to be a bit of an improvement over the 9000 and venerated SCD-1. I have one or two in the original box in the garage waiting for me to get off my ass and sell stuff I no longer use.db
KEF 107.1 or B&W 802 S3 Matrix
I think the tweeter is what differentiates the 107/2 from the 107.  I've never heard the 107s, but JA's review in Stereophile claimed they were bit lacking in the high end and the 107/2 cured that.  You might want to read his review of the 107/2s.db
KEF 107.1 or B&W 802 S3 Matrix
I used 107/2s for years with Parasound JC-1 monoblocks, a great combination. I loved the sound. As I understand it, KEF chose not to use internal circuitry and instead rely on KUBEs matched to specific speakers. KEF claims reproduction is not accu...
