EAR 868 VS Belles 21A? Wig, I use a pair of Mirror Matched RCA 5814A from the 1950's. These tested very low Mic. and are the 3 Mica type. I got one set from Andy at Vintage Tube Service and they sounded so good I got a second set as backup. I am still using the first se...
EAR 868 VS Belles 21A? I have not but I have compared many preamps to my 21A Auricap and I have always returned to the Belles. I did like a few more, the ARC Ref 3 provided a little more air, detail and was a little more musical but lost a little warmth and base, overal...
Schematics Well, that's about the silliest question I have heard.
Best power conditioner? I had a Shunyata Hydra 6 with 20amp Python power cord and recently changed to the Audience Adept with audience cords. They sound different and I can see where on initial impression the Audience may be more impressive. After several weeks of listen...
Where to go from a Shelter 901 Mk1. Could try the 901 MkII. I have not heard it but I believe there is a review in a past copy of Tone Audio online magazine.
Power cords and/or conditioners for Belles amp? I had a Belles Ref.150A for a few years and loved the amp. I used a Shunyata hydra4 and then hydra6 when my system grew. I never had a problem, though I did use a big powercable to feed the hydra. I also demo'd a Ref. 350A and had no problem with ...
Speaker cables for Dynaudio C1 I had the C1 for awhile and agree with the Nordost Frey, the Heimdal is also very good and perhaps a better buy. I would avoid older model nordost however, especially the RedDawn as they can be very bright with the C1
The CD Player Lie? Sorry, I was did not mean to critisize your findings, I have also demo'd many items and found the cheaper was better to my ears. My Classe CA2200 is an example as when I demo'd it I did not know the cost and compared it to top stereo amps from com...
The CD Player Lie? I think that we all know that every piece of audio equipment sounds the same. It has been stated many times that two amplifiers of equal power will always sound exactly the same. Cable upgrades are a conspiracy of right wing capitalists to steal f...
Are scratch LPs part of the game ? No, it is not always part of the game. On old LP's that I buy used I will have scratches but they are not inevitable on LP's that don't have scratchs when I get them. I have lp's that I have had for years and played dozens of times and no scratche...
Mods for ARC preamp / amp Do an internet search on GNSC modifications. They are not new at this and have been doing it for a long time. Steve also has a history with ARC. I believe that there are some reviews of their mods on HiFi+ magazine. I have not owned thier products...
Rotel 1052 and magnepan MMG I drove my dynaudio 52SE's with a rotel 1052 for a year or so and was pleased. The dyn's were about the same efficiency on paper. If the actual impedence of the Magnepan's however go below 4 ohms it may be a chore to drive.
cassette deck enthusitast pt 2....sleeper 2 header Technics RS-M88, was a wonderful deck in it's day. I had an 88 and a 95 around 1980 and made tapes with an LP12. I ended up selling the 95 and kept the 88. The 95 was a little better but not enough to keep it over the 88 and a fist full of cash fo...
New amp I have been very happy with my Classe CA2200 and have auditioned some much more expensive amps. The Classe is very neutral and does not jump up to get attention but is very even throghout the range. I have audtioned it with the VTL 5.5 and the 6.5...
Focal Scala Utopia vs Wilson Sasha? I have spent time with the Wilson WP7 and 8 and have listened to the Sasha. The Sasha sounded very different, less dynamic at the extremes and more balanced overall. I prefer a speaker that doesn't Wow me at first listen but overtime seduces me wi... |
