Turntable speed accuracy this is almost humorous, you folks are arguing about problems the older among us had to deal with in Dual and Phillips TT's of the 70's and 80's.If speed of a TT is constantly off the musical pitches will be off. Since all speeds are off proportio...
Turntable speed accuracy 1) speed accuracy to the point where its musically relevant has been pretty much solved in any TT costing over $3002) the average stylus pressure is 1.5 gm. The drag of this on a rotating platter assembly of 2000 gms is negligible; the mass equiva...
No such thing as a future proof DAC... anyone who tells you a piece of electronics is future proof either (a) believes they are psychic or (b) as a smart manufacturer has hedged their bet with a trade in program. I deal with product life cycles... 3 years is about as far as anyone can ...
How to choose a good fiber optic cable?? Thanks tom6897! I use this for computer audio so ordered the 12' length, prefer my PC hardware to be distanced from the audio electronics. Replacing the USB cable to the Vlink last night opened my eyes on how the off the shelf cables I've been usi...
Best Record You Have Ever heard Sheffield Labs Direct to Disc, 1980; Growing up in Hollywood Town, Amanda McBroom and Lincoln Mayorga. Lovely and fun to listen to. Lesser tone arms will self destruct as Amanda sings "The Rose
Is ripping from a laptop as good as a desktop? no difference if the CD is perfect. If the CD is imperfect a poorer drive will have a harder time of error correction for imperfections. The licensed version of dbPoweramp allows multi CPU support for ripping which may make the better processor mac...
Conrad Johnson PV-10A mod experiences? Very happy so far with the Solen replacements in the pre main section. While the pre is not as fast as going DAC direct for transients, the preamp now comes quite close and cause more smiles :<). Played a few LP's last night, I can definitely h...
Are there new players with HDCD? why bother. dbPoweramp will decode HDCD with its decoder pack so that you can rip and store HDCD's decoded 20 bits in 24 bit package. Thats what I do. DVD and SACD are the only reason to use a transport any more since their format is rip unfriendly.
Magnepan 1.7 too bright, HELP for what its worth, I auditioned the 1.7's with the Rogue Chronus last month. Blissful musical, no listening fatigue factor with musical detail popping out all over. Could be that's all the cure you need
Conrad Johnson PV-10A mod experiences? Just getting back to this thread after a while. The small white caps in the PV-10A were definitely toast. As to being teflon, thats speculative. From the era the PV-10A was made in they might have been Wonder caps or they could have been rebadged ...
Mini Maggie System hurts to listen to 1) my 1.7's took about 3 months to fully break in2)I found power connector and interconnects contributed to edge. Audioadvisor has a Pangea power cable and Black Mamba II interconnect combo that I'm very happy with (although I do like the PS Audio...
dac advice I'd be curious to see if you get any reponses on the Musical Fidelity M1 DAC, its in the same range. I was initially thinking about same price range but realized in that range there are 3 trade offs (a) asynch USB doesn't come with (b)there no pre...
Are CD players dead my two cents from someone who swore by LP's up to 2001 because CD's and players made until then gave me the same sensation when listening as having my teeth drilled by the dentist.1)Digital is getting very close to LP's, doesn't degrade with repea...
Magnepan 1.7 too bright, HELP sorry, audioconnection, thats not science. A resistor in series will cause a dB drop thats fairly flat between the crossover point and natural frequency roll off of the tweeter. That means you are using a resistor as an equalizer. If a room is ref...
Magnepan 1.7 too bright, HELP I suppose if you find it acceptable to compromise you can use the resistor.. i did that initially but basically that was akin to using an equalizer... the treble was lower, out of balance with the midrange. Have patience with figuring out what's w... |
