Are there new players with HDCD? why bother. dbPoweramp will decode HDCD with its decoder pack so that you can rip and store HDCD's decoded 20 bits in 24 bit package. Thats what I do. DVD and SACD are the only reason to use a transport any more since their format is rip unfriendly.
Magnepan 1.7 too bright, HELP for what its worth, I auditioned the 1.7's with the Rogue Chronus last month. Blissful musical, no listening fatigue factor with musical detail popping out all over. Could be that's all the cure you need
Conrad Johnson PV-10A mod experiences? Just getting back to this thread after a while. The small white caps in the PV-10A were definitely toast. As to being teflon, thats speculative. From the era the PV-10A was made in they might have been Wonder caps or they could have been rebadged ...
Mini Maggie System hurts to listen to 1) my 1.7's took about 3 months to fully break in2)I found power connector and interconnects contributed to edge. Audioadvisor has a Pangea power cable and Black Mamba II interconnect combo that I'm very happy with (although I do like the PS Audio...
dac advice I'd be curious to see if you get any reponses on the Musical Fidelity M1 DAC, its in the same range. I was initially thinking about same price range but realized in that range there are 3 trade offs (a) asynch USB doesn't come with (b)there no pre...
Are CD players dead my two cents from someone who swore by LP's up to 2001 because CD's and players made until then gave me the same sensation when listening as having my teeth drilled by the dentist.1)Digital is getting very close to LP's, doesn't degrade with repea...
Magnepan 1.7 too bright, HELP sorry, audioconnection, thats not science. A resistor in series will cause a dB drop thats fairly flat between the crossover point and natural frequency roll off of the tweeter. That means you are using a resistor as an equalizer. If a room is ref...
Magnepan 1.7 too bright, HELP I suppose if you find it acceptable to compromise you can use the resistor.. i did that initially but basically that was akin to using an equalizer... the treble was lower, out of balance with the midrange. Have patience with figuring out what's w...
Magnepan 1.7 too bright, HELP I have Maggie 1.7's initially throught they were too bright, then as I experimented I realized they were accurately passing what they were fed.1) invest in good quality interconnects and power cables, cheapest place to start. I went through about ...
USB to SPDIF Converters I have the Musical fidelity Vlink... excellent choice if you want better sound from an existing DAC that came without asynchrous USB. DTC probably has a point, for under $1K I doubt you would get full benefit from data rates above 96K.... which is...
Do powercords make a difference in sound? I spent $300 for new wall sockets and PS Jewel power cords... some here pay that for a single interconnect. The audible difference in base performance and reduction of irritants in sound was well worth it.Having done electrical construction long a...
Memory playback worse than disk... Why? agreed on both windows and BIOS power settings... wake from sleep state is bad for audio reproduction. Unfortunately laptops tend to be less diverse in changing BIOS options that could help since they have to focus on battery life preservation.
which output setting sounds best? Ditch Vista and go Win7 64 bit if your laptop is less than 2 years old; Vista is badly flawed for audio fidelity. I A/B'd Vista Ultimate 64 bit vs Win7 Home 64 bit and Win7 was much better for fidelity. However the hardware architecture of your la...
Android Tablets - Plausible to use asMusic Server? avoid android for music playback...hw/sw just isn't that good. Stick to MAC/ Palm OS/ Windows.
Memory playback worse than disk... Why? 2 thumbs up Simontju to your opinion on FLAC. When FLAC is the option and not WAV on high rez downloads I always convert to WAV after... added processing for FLAC decoding seems to add jitter/ loss of clarity in playback on my dedicated music server. |
