What would you say is the better sounding SET amp?
To summarise, "it aint what you do but the way that you do it". I confess I have'nt heard a 45, but all the rest in various manifestations. To me, there is more difference between amps, than between valves. It is the skill of the designer and qual...
Anyone try Townshend Super Tweeters?
I have used the Townshend, I could'nt hear a thing I am afraid. Probably says more about my ears than the product. At least in the UK they are sale or return and townshend took them back. Cant say fairer than that
What finish is more attractive: Wood or paint?
Sorry, this is a question directed to the distaf side. We may try and choose the component, aesthetics are down to the wife, so wood it is then. No Zu definition speakers for me.
To Dac or not to Dac
To change the thread very slightly, is there an argument to going separate DAC and transport, because of the transport. There was an interesting letter in this months HiFi World(sensble and DIY based UK mag), bemoaning the declining quality of tra...
Out of curiosity, where does everyone live?
Wantage, Oxfordshire, in the UK
Itching for an SACD player
Very helpful as I am on a similar quest, searching the various "modders" website. One drawback it seems worth considering, is just what is being improved, for example VSE may be excellent, but the upgrade is mainly to SACD, I believe. Most of us ar...
Where Can I go From an LP-12/Ittok LV II/Lingo
I used the LP12 for years, moved on to Origin Live now, thats another story. I used the Ittok and it was excellent(only for MC cartridges as I am sure you know). IMHO, it betters the Akito considerably and the Ekos was its replacement. The only ad...
Phonostage Burn-in to keep unit sharp
Kevin at K&K suggested a simple burn in method for transformers(I am not trying to get Raul riled about Step ups). He suggested putting a tuner output through the Ludahl transformers for 2 days, with the phonostge turned off
Need help choosing spkrs I've never heard
I have certainly bought on the basis of advice and reviews, sans audition, I am not proud of it. However, that was cables and a power amp, not speakers. The advice given seems excellent. I STRONGLY support buying 2nd hand, you can view it as an un...
Anyone here using Bent Audio MU MC into Modulus 3a
Not answering your question, but may i 2nd, or is it 3rd, the K&K. I had mine built at $1900 or in kit form $1550. The best vinyl reproduction I have heard in my system, by a country mile. Detailed, but not harsh, great base, soundstage, whats...
poor vinyl
I am in the UK, but I have to say, I have found E Bay grading to be acceptable, particularly from the on line specialist shops. You can of course search these offers through www.ebay.co.uk where for you classical lovers, you will find more HMV ASD...
Is There any Truly "High End" Integrated Amp?
Of course integrated amps can be high end. I put a similar thread up a couple of months ago and got slapped down for suggesting they could match a top of the range pre and monoblocks. Well perhaps an integrated can't match the very best separates,...
Daedalus DA-1: How Good Are They?
lou, you anticipated my question, a trip across the pond to the colonies beckons this Autumn. I am not sure how cold Denver is in October, a bit of a drive to the National park would be good too.
certin speaker makers harder to get dissounts fro
There are, I think certain rules to follow in dealing with dealers. 1) No requests for dems if you have no intention of buying from the shop. A dealer friend says that there is a special place in hell for guys spending hours deming an item, then d...
Daedalus DA-1: How Good Are They?
Aktchi. your right, there are fine UK speakers to choose from. I am using Living Voice Avatars at the moment and they are excellent, if on the polite side of neutral. There is'nt a great choice otherwise, of UK spaekers of high sensitivity. The ch...
