Opinions on Walker High Definition Links
Just a thought, as mentioned before, I use the HDL's and find them very effective, but can someone answer why all the effective tweaks are so expensive? I mean its a tiny wooden box with a couple of wires out of it, how come it costs so much. It's...
Best Koetsu for SME V
Excuse my ignorance, but I did'nt think there were great differences in Wt, compliance etc, between the Koetsu's. The distinction is sound and output, basically .47mvish, against.27mvish for the platinum. The latter had more detail and neutrality ...
tubes and analog
Adjustabilty is useful, but in practice, a gain of 60 to 65 with most phono stages will cover most MC cartridges, except the very low .2mv of a few cartridges. That is'nt to say greater adjustabilty is'nt useful, but it is costly and may compromis...
SET amps and speaker sensitivity.
In SET amps as with many others, all watts are not created equal. Other aspects than simple output figures determine abilty to drive real speakers. In particular, the size and quality of output transformers is a factor. Now they are heavy and expe...
CDP Upgrade: Around 2k Used
I am on a similar search and have a similar list. I have narrowed down to Ayre or Resolution opus 21. Having spoken to Steve Huntley at Great Northern Sound, who sells and Mods Wadia and Resolution, I feel he rates Resolution more. I am going for ...
Tube Phono kits
I am ashamed to admit I did'nt build it, but the K&K is the best stage I have had in my system. It is quiet and abolisherd the RFI problem I had experienced with every other stage I have had. Nice sound , but not lush and tube like, good acros...
Quirky British Audio
Who are you calling quirky, we may be a little eccentric, but never quirky. The question comes back to what type of watts not how many. Absolute power matters less than the quality, how well the amp grips the speakers and that is often based on po...
RidgeStreetAudio Poiema 3 IC'S?
Another vote for the Signature Power Chord. I have had 2 in my system for about a month. I replaced them with an Audience chord, which is itself one of the first chords I thought really made a difference to my system. The P!!! chords were a big st...
Are Naim speakers worth the money
I like Naim gear, but not the speakers. There are many Speakers that work well with Naim. The best Naim system sound I have heard was at a recent UK HiFi show where a Naim specialist dealer paired all Naim electronics and not the top priced ones, ...
Keep the cables the same throughout the system?
I think you should stick to the same manufacturer for speaker cables and interconnects. I am not so sure if it matters for power cables to be the same as SC and IC, anyone any views?
Personal turntable/cartridge evolution
Started with Thorens 150. Hadcock arm Shure cartridge in 1977, could afford the Linn. Linn Lp12 with ittok, then Origin live silver taper arm. Now, finally and I mean that, I think, Origon live Resolution modern/OL Illustrious. Koetsu Rosewood Sig...
Blind Shoot-out in San Diego -- 5 CD Players
I would love to conduct a similar shootout, but with players that the average Audio nut can afford. Perhaps players such as the Resolution Opus 21, Audio Research CD3 or CD7, BAT Vk-D5SE, APL Modded Denon's, Ayre CX-7e, Cary 303/300, 306 SACD, Mer...
300B or 845?
Oh the eternal question. I can't argue with any of the above. The 845 is more neutral with greater drive and dynamics. Base and treble are better defined and base deeper. 300B's have that tube mid range magic, which may well just be colouration, b...
Best bang for the buck turntable?
It rather depends where you live. The price of the $ makes importing very expensive for you colonials. Here in the UK, I would say Rega, Project/Origin Live are best value. I have no experience with many US decks, but have heard VPI and am very im...
HDCD compatible?
I happen to like HDCD and think it a big upgrade to standard redbook. Certainly I have bought new releases that still have HDCD. It's my impression that although HDCD discs are being produced, fewer players seem to contain the Pacific HDCD chip th...
