Do you leave your platter spinning while switching
I use a TW deck too, the Raven one and leave it spinning. I don't use a clamp. I tried a Shun Mook weight and could'nt detect much difference. That being the case, it is easy to take a disc off a spinning platter and I agree that constant turning ...
Music, new artists, found at HiFi Shows
Viridian I can't agree with you. I think they are a good place to hear artist/CDs, you have'nt heard before. They are also a great place to pick up free demo CDs, there is usually at least one, in most shows. Also you find the manufacturers demo C...
Music, new artists, found at HiFi Shows
I agree, many do play boring music, which is easy on system reproducton, but as you say, you do pick up the odd gem, at least I do. I do think recording quality matters to. Compressed, over loud recordings, still sound just that, through a good sy...
10K$ Speakers for 845 SET amplification
Again, a recomendation for Daedalus. I use the DA-RMA's, similar to the new Athena and they worked well with my Viva Solista, 845SET and now, the 20watt Ayon Spark. About 96db sensitivity and a benign load. I understand they would work with 8 watt...
Viva or Mastersound?
I used the Viva Solista Mk1 for 5 years, a very nice, if very large, heavy, inefficient, hot running amp. I liked it a lot, but also understand the Mk 2 is significantly better and more expensive. Phaelon is correct about the tubes, the Solisata r...
Sablon Audio Cables
There has been some discussion on this site, of Mark's cables. The origonal cable was the Robusto and that is the sweetspot in the range for me. I have several pairs,as I do of the equally well spoken of, Lessloss origonals. I love them both, thou...
Hybrid Integrated Amps: Any Good?
Another vote of confidence, I have the Pathos Inpol2, a 50watt Class A hybrid integrated. I can't recall a better amp in my system.
How Many Turntables Have You Owned
Thorens 160B, Linn LP12, Origin Live Oasis and Resolution, currently TW Accustic Raven One and that's a keeper
What's up with ads for $70,000 speakers selling
Not just Audiogon. I had my E-bay A/C taken over by changing the password and about $1000,000 of stuff put on with a 3 day sale, speakers, Audi', BMW's. I was around and told E-bay. Obviously looking for folks who don't check their A/C frequently.
Is a vinyl rig only worth it for oldies?
It seems to me, that the out of hand dismissal of CD sound quality, is a little out of date. Ironically, as LP became a"legacy" medium, the offerings of turntables, arms and phonostages etc, exploded in terms of quality and quantity. I put legacy ...
Devore Nines and Daedalus Athena comparison?
Taylor514 I think Daedalus are available for demo wherever there are speakers made by Lou. I live in the UK and mine can be demo'd any time. There is at least one pair in Australia and a dealer in New Zealand. If you have'nt checked with Lou, don'...
Witch vinyl LP , EP or single you acquired FIRST?
Can't remember the precise title, but Frankie Limon and the teenagers, ? Teenager falling in love. It was a LONG time ago
Devore Nines and Daedalus Athena comparison?
Dodgealum precisely, a detailed but unfatiguing, essentilly musical sound. Did you have you're DA1's upgraded to the new AP crossover? Mine had them when I bought them. I know it's hard to do a comparison when the speakers may have been away some ...
Devore Nines and Daedalus Athena comparison?
I would not say I detect any recessed treble. The speaker is pretty neutral across the frequency range. What you don't get, as Al aludes to, is the etched harsh treble I find with many high end speakers, particularly Focal. Not my cup of tea at al...
Devore Nines and Daedalus Athena comparison?
I don't think I made clear in my post, that of all the speakers I listened to, the Devore and Daedalus were my favourites. The former seemed that little bit more polite, less bite and dynamics, ythen the Daedalus, but very good. They were running ...
