Options for ridding records of static electricity @masi61 The felt mat on the LP12 is certainly the cause of the static issue ( well one of them), unfortunately it is also the best mat IME for getting the best sound from the table. Replacing the mat will probably mean a reduction in SQ, and no m...
Looking for ideas on Lyra Delos - muddy middle @dducat The Lyra requires an extremely precise set up ( not only mechanically, but also load wise), due in part to its new angle technology. Getting it close is not going to allow the cartridge to sound its best. Unfortunately, a lot of folk who e...
Looking for ideas on Lyra Delos - muddy middle @dducat 0.2mv vs 0.6v is actually a fairly considerable difference in gain. The phono stage should be working a lot less with your Lyra..and this should actually lead to less noise than your other cartridge...not more. One other thing to consider,...
Looking for ideas on Lyra Delos - muddy middle @dducat Perhaps the recording is at fault, there are a ton of recordings wherein the master tape wasn’t that great to begin with..so you are hearing the LP at its best SQ, which may not be that great. i have noticed this with a number of rock LP’s...
Proteus compared to MSL ultra eminent ex @rauliruegas Please tell us why you are suggesting no tubes in a system?? I find your statement about tubes to be very odd!
Honest question about cartridge vs. turntable performance. With groove damage, the issue is not obvious in most cases by looking at the LP. Last night, I put on what looked like a Mint condition Direct to Disc, the groove noise was annoying from the lead in groove on the first side to the lead out groove ...
Does anyone manufacture an alternative Linn Sondek belt pulley ? The issue here is simple, the OP is setting the table up himself and clearly something is going wrong, leading to my post above.
Honest question about cartridge vs. turntable performance. @honest1 You had a poor experience with your Linn Axis vs a Dual. Unfortunately that does not lead to a universal declaration, it leads to a 'humble opinion'-- like you just gave.
Cartridge Opinions - Sorry @atmasphere LOL, you are 100% correct. I too noticed that dear Raul didn't take it upon himself to consult with a tonearm manufacturer or turntable manufacturer....but that would risk him getting an opinion opposite to his!
Does anyone have experience with seller Kron on cartridges? @scar972 Thanks, that is informative. I noticed that the rep is based out of Canada, and they have a number of Canadian dealers, none in the US---so far. Wonder why that is?Also, should be interesting to see how the price points compare to Kron's ...
Does anyone manufacture an alternative Linn Sondek belt pulley ? If you are getting belt slip, then I would suggest that there is something wrong with your Linn’s set up. I would recommend a trip to a Linn dealer who can do the set up correctly.
Honest question about cartridge vs. turntable performance. Having owned a Technics Direct Drive SP10 mk2 and now a Linn, I think both tables can deliver good to great sound. The Technics was a table that I thought could sound a bit like digital at times, IOW a little sterile and dry sounding. The Linn, if...
Cartridge Opinions - Sorry @klooker The Linn philosophy with regards to tonearms seems to be that the ability to adjust azimuth is not important. Your Ittok has limited adjustability in regards to a number of set up parameters. Linn seems to think that the cartridge manuf...
Is a Linn Sondek LP12/Lingo/Ekos with a Cirkus update, the last turntable I’ll ever buy? @lewm Interesting perspective...now what is your analogy to the many tube amps that are on the market?
Honest question about cartridge vs. turntable performance. @testpilot There have been two prior bearings for the Linn. The original and then the Cirkus. The new one called the Karousel attaches to the subchassis with a three point system. It is also more precisely machined to a mirror finish at the base. ... |
