Cost Incurred to Achieve a Vinyl LP Replay @pindac While I agree that the individual cost of a record is likely to be much less than a piece of hardware to replay it, the accrued cost of a decent size collection is usually far more. So much so, that if collectors, like myself, added up th...
Cost Incurred to Achieve a Vinyl LP Replay Vinyl is a fairly pricey endeavor. Not so much because of the cost of the hardware (although one can splurge here as much as one wants), but more so because of the software cost. Some folks I know have record collections that exceed one hundred th...
New, Very Interesting CD Transport Interesting thread. I own an Esoteric DV60, which I use solely as a transport. The DV60 is a universal player, which means it can read SACD's, DVD A's etc., I do not think it is any less capable as a transport than a unit designed purely for CD's....
Ultimate Turntable search...OMA K5 or ? @peterayer A friend heard the AS 2000 a while back, reported to me that he was quite underwhelmed. He believed that the speed control was marginal and that the string contributed to wow and flutter. My experience with the old war horse SME 3012 t...
Ultimate Turntable search...OMA K5 or ? I have heard a lot of top turntable designs. IMO, the best and by quite a large margin, is the Basis Transcendence. It is still a belt drive, but AJ (RIP) hit it out of the park with this table. Plus, his Superarm is a great arm. Like Mike L said...
The dangerous world of Reel-to-Reel Tape Some of the best sound I have heard came from a well restored Studer A820. There really is no other source besides tape that I have heard that can bring that level of realism. Problem is, and this is why I have not gone down the 'rabbit hole', the...
Magico and Tube amp @knotscott +1. Any of the CAT amps will be good though the larger mono blocks are probably best.
Magico and Tube amp Magico, which are known to be an amp buster speaker ( like so many these days! One has to ask, why are these designs so popular??) works very well with one tube amp that can handle their nasty impedance drop, and that is the CAT tube amps. These...
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report A couple of Vollenweider CD's. Maybe i have changed in my musical preferences, as I used to really like his stuff, but now I find it boring and repetitive. The recording quality is ok, but the music is just so very mundane.
Do people tire of audio forums? What make me tire of forums is when a forum owner, or so called 'gort begins to believe that they need to intercede into everything and act in a superior manner. This happened on WBF and on Steve Hoffman. I cannot say I miss either of these forum...
Budget Amp for Sonus Faber @asianatorizzle Your speakers are more than capable of delineating the differences between amps..and your other upstream gear. If you pair them with a marginal amp/preamp, or a marginal sounding integrated, they will sound like what your upstream...
A blowing session???? @immatthewj Yes, technically the sax is in the woodwind family. Although this classification is simply because it uses a wood reed, but when was the last time anyone saw a wooden sax?? Almost all of the ones I know of are made of brass.Which is e...
Budget Amp for Sonus Faber I am not sure I understand why anyone would spend the $$ for a speaker that is of the calibre of the SF G Traditions...and then want to hobble them with an amp and ancillary gear ( sitting on a table??) that simply does not do them any justice???
A blowing session???? @jafant Thanks for the suggestions. I have just about every OG Blue Note produced. So, i am familiar with these folks works. My OP was wondering more along the lines if the particular genre at the time...mostly Bop, was pretty much a ’blowing se...
Suggestions for Giant Killer rca coax digital cable under $500 used Try a Audioquest Carbon. Fairly inexpensive and a great bang for the buck. Also, very well represented, so pretty easy to source. |
