Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade @lewm After I showed the engineer the video, he remarked that the bearing is a single point oil bearing. If I remember correctly, he mentioned that the oil is what acts as a surface for the tension between the shaft and the walls. I believe he me...

Why do tube amps often subjectively sound more powerful than SS ? I swap in a 250watt/ch ss amp with my 45watt/ch tube mono blocks. I leave the volume control on the preamp at exactly the same setting for both amps, as the volume in the room from the speakers is identical.
Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade @newton_john indeed, there are folks on this thread who assume a lot about the Linn table, you know what they say about folks who ‘assume’ things. @dover My discussions with the mechanical engineer was in reference to the bearing, since you s...
a rant @curiousjim My first Hafler 220 was a class A/B design. I think they all were.
a rant One thing that always amuses me is how many reviewers come out with immense amounts of hyperbole about the gear under review, yet fail to have any idea as to the gear that was used to make the recording they are listening to. Many times the record...
Why do tube amps often subjectively sound more powerful than SS ? Maybe because the particular tube amp you are enjoying has a great transformer....;0)
Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade @newton_john Tonight I asked a well respected mechanical engineer if the Linn bearing that Dover and others claims is not put together accurately, is in fact that. The gentleman told me that clearly the folks denigrating the Linn bearing design r...
Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade @lewm I agree, plinth material is an interesting subject. I recently changed out my original Afro fluted plinth from the 80’s for a new Linn Oak plinth with the various mods like the corner bracing etc., the new plinth has two benefits for me: On...
LYRA CARTRIDGES VIDEO Some excellent points in the video. One of the things that I think is really good is the point about not cleaning the stylus too much. I went through a bottle of SPT cleaner in less than a year...then I realized that it could be applied far less f...
Unipivot tone arms "I have ownd a Naim Aro for 25 ears along with a myriad of other arms. It is very stable due in part to the low centre of gravity ( below the pivot point ). You either had a faulty arm or maybe it was your bouncy castle ( Linn ), though Martin Co...
Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade @elliottbnewcombjr I have seen the video you posted and others that are more complete. The bearing is precise without having to be a tight fit! Remember, the bearing point is what the whole shaft rotates from. The bearing point is diamond hardene...
Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade @lewm I just took a look at your system. Nice. Have you had the opportunity of hearing what a new LP12 Akurate or Klimax model would be like in your system? I suspect you might be pleasantly surprised.
Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade @elliottbnewcombjr The new Karousel bearing is reportedly machined to within 5 microns ( is that a lack of precision???). What do you believe your Thorens bearing is machined to? BTW, you do realize that your SME example relies on a knife ...
Unipivot tone arms I wonder if the use of a unipivot has anything to do with cost of manufacture and complexity of same, vs the more expensive/complex gimbal. I use a variation on the unipivot design, a Well Tempered ’Black’ arm that sits the pivot via strings in a ... |
