Jeff Rowland Model 8 - questions Bambadoo, see my posts above in the thread about new vs. old models.I run my 8 with a CAT sig pre-amp, I modded this with NOS GE smooth plates and Russian rocket tubes in the phono stage. IMHO this combo is pretty awesome. I have heard many of the...
Rowland --- older amps vs the newer models? sirspeedy, the model I have is the original model 8 with the choke power supply( single chassis).I have heard the switch mode power supply and still prefer the choke. Jeff once told me that the choke was in his opinion the way to go, but that he h...
Rowland --- older amps vs the newer models? Had my model 8 with the original power supply ( choke) for many years. It's built like a tank and sounds much smoother than some of the newer models IMHO. I have compared choke vs. dual mono supply version and again prefer the choke version. If yo...
Jeff Rowland amp owners: What's your pre-amp?? Model 8 with original choke power supply, which IMHO sounds better than later non-choke units and a CAT SL1 Signature with NOS GE tubes. Seems like a pretty good marriage.
Convergent Audio Preamps Artg,i rolled the tubes in my SL1 Sig into NOS GE smooth plates and Russian rockets in the Phono stage. Hugh difference!! Waaaay more dynamic and much quieter with greater air and extension.Having heard the Ultimate but not the Ultimate 2, I perso...
b&w model nautilus seashells Only heard the original nautilus at a stereophile show several years ago, they were truly spectacular. Far better than any horn I have listened to, and I have heard a lot of them including Avantgarde's etc.I would rate them as one of the top five ...
How do you cope with dust build up ? Like Tfkaudio said what about inside components?I've looked inside my pre-amp and the amount of dust build up was amazing. I blew most of it out but?I don't live in a particualrly dusty climate and the I clean the room regularly. But, the build up...
Top Ten Speakers of All Time? IMHO Hales Signature 2's. They Blew away my pair of Acoustat's and I would hate to think what this kind of cabinet quality and build would cost today.
CAT SL-1 phono loading question................... Michael Percy sold me a pair of WBT's which had vishay's soldered to them. They sound excellent as loading plugs. Highly recommend.
Krell KSA 50 vs. todays ss amps? Dave, thanks for the links, but that's a 50S and NOT the amp I was referring to. The little KSA50 is an older model, but is supposed to be one of the best amps ever made.I still am wandering how it compares to the amps I mentioned above... anyone?
Origin DC Motor in LP12: Marketing or reality? Got to agree with Linnlp 12, I had a Basik plus mounted on my Valhalla LP12. It is amazing what a pile of -- this arm is. I replaced it with a WTA that simply put was like going from a cheap 80's CD player to a Linn in difference.Nothing I have tr...
Gruve Glide Gruve Glide has done wonders for my LP's for over ten years now. As the above posts say, the static loss is worth the money alone, but after cleanig with VPI and then applying Gruve Glide I always notice a slight reduction in background noise as w...
What tonearms $1500 work well with the Linn? Well I have used a Well tempered arm on my Linn for many years. They seem to like each other, although a WTA today is far less money than your budget. Oh well, maybe something left over for more LP's!
Merlin VSM-M or VSM-MX vs. Kharma CRM3.2 series Bobby, that's a very interesting response.A while back I heard a very well respected horn manufacturer's speaker that was playing a demo of a drum set. At first listen, I was struck by how amazingly like a real drum set they sounded..Then the manu...
Merlin VSM-M or VSM-MX vs. Kharma CRM3.2 series Panorama, I actually do think my system is a joke when it comes to comparing it to live unamplified. It doesn't make any difference what kind of live unamplified music one listens to, the differences between live and reproduced are enormous. My poin... |
