Should I keep my Well tempered tonearm?
Thanks Gvoth. However, I don't see how replacing the set screw...which I believe adjusts the VTA only and NOT the azimuth will help here. The basic problem that the WTA has is that the monofilament line can can adjust as the float changes position...
listening in the dark?
I totally agree that listening in the dark is preferable MOST of the time. I think one can get a better sense of the stage and for some reason ( apparently psycho-acoustic) one hears small details better. OTOH, when it is time to flip that darn 45...
Texas Hurricane...the music of SRV
Rockadanny, I don't own the MFSL's. But, I'm sure they are very good. This new box set from Chad Kassem will be very interesting....I hope it lives up to the hype. I was listening yesterday to the Cat Stevens Tea LP from Chad, and once again, as I...
How many of your play instruments?
I play guitar. A little blues, jazz and some rock. I use an American Standard Ash Tele and a EC Strat. Numerous amps and pedals....including a Mesa Tremoverb 2 12" combo. For acoustic I use a Taylor 810...has major PUNCH.
In Awe of "Yessongs" Forty Years Later
I think Yessongs is a truly a superb piece of music. I luckily still have my original UK pressing and it's a winner. Superior sonics to the US re-issue, although by no means an a'phile recording,

Stewen 1, I wonder if you have an earlier version i.e a Mk1 that was semi-converted to a Mk 2 by someone other than ARC?

Stewen 1, do post again once you have had a chance to listen to the amp. I will be VERY interested to hear your thoughts. IMO, this amp is one of the very best low power amps that ARC made and is still HIGHLY competitive with the latest offerings.

Stewen 1, I don't think there are multiple versions of the Mk2. My D70 was updated at the factory to Mk2 status, which the factory still has record of.You might check with ARC, as previously suggested, to get more info on your amp....just give the...

Stewen1, I believe IF your D70 uses the 6FQ7's then it is a mk 2 version. You could check with ARC themselves, they are VERY helpful when it comes to the amp and still service it. I don't believe Pmotz is correct in his assessment of ARC service.
CAT SL1 Signature, How does it measure up ?
Essrand, rolling in tubes is very easy in the CAT. Simply remove the top plate and you're good to go. HOWEVER, you MUST make sure that the new tubes that you employ are compatible. I have utilized Kevin Deal's assistance ( Upscale audio) with buyi...
CAT SL1 Signature, How does it measure up ?
Essrand, I think you will be VERY pleased with the CAT. I would suggest rolling in some NOS tubes into both the line and phono section. This made a HUGE difference to the sound of my CAT. The phono stage is highly sensitive to which tube is employ...
CAT SL1 MK 2 Reference Preamp Tube Replacement
Talk to Kevin at Upscale Audio. He was helpful in my tube rolling for my CAT Sig.Knows his stuff when it comes to CAT.
To Cat sl1 owners: which tube amp?
Jafox, I do agree with you that the CAT and its gain structure is absolutely NOT the cause of excess brightness. However, I think you may be surprised IF you listened to an ARC D70Mk2 or a D115 today( with some of today's gear)....they are NOT ove...
To Cat sl1 owners: which tube amp?
If your Forest's can be driven with 65 watt/ch, I would suggest an amp that I use and love....the ARC D70Mk2. Superb synergy with my CAT and it is one of the very best amps for jazz or classical that I have heard. The mids and highs are still IMHO...
Rowland service
Guido tells it like it is. I have had my model 8 for over 18 years and I have no intention of replacing it anytime soon. Too great an amp, IMO.BTW, I have been contacted by Brandon and he is VERY helpful indeed...great customer service.
