What would Paul Hales have accomplished today??
Martykl, the Sig 2's did weigh a lot, BUT nothing compared to some of today's monsters. I think Paul believed strongly in cabinet rigidity as part of his design and went to some lengths to assure this...which resulted in 4" thick baffles etc., Som...
What would Paul Hales have accomplished today??
Thanks, Peter. I knew that Paul had gone into the pro audio world...which IMO looks to reproduce music in a slightly different way than the a'phile world. If Paul was still in the home audio/a'phile world, it would be interesting to see what his p...
CAT Signature SL1 MK 3 pros and cons
If you roll in NOS tubes into a CAT, I am not sure you can do a lot better for many multiples of that price.
Ref-75-SE delivered ...
Taters, price of gear has IMHO NOTHING to do with ability. The higher the price, one thing is probable, the higher the profit. Nothing to do with the higher SQ. This supposed dictum...price rates to quality and SQ, is NOT an absolute in our hobby,...
Is your tube amp really a tube amp?
Atmasphere, what do you consider a hybrid tube amp? Since you say a solid state device in the power supply does not mean that the amp is not a true tube amp, what qualifies as a hybrid?
ARC D-115 use half of tubes
Hifigeek1, I think the OP is talking about a D115. However, the same advice would apply.
ARC D-115 use half of tubes
I used to own a Classic 60 before I owned my D70Mk2. IMO, the Classic 60 is not in the same league as the D70Mk2. While the Classic 60 is a good amp, I don't think it has anywhere near the midrange purity or the ability to float the soundstage lik...
ARC D-115 use half of tubes
I own a D70MK2 and I think it is actually a better sounding amp than the bigger D115! The other plus, which I think a lot of tube amp users forget...or don't truly understand, is that the more tubes, the more heat and more potential for failure. S...
High end cartridge made in USA?
The history of the MC is interesting, however, I do not think it explains the lack of manufacturing today in the US. BTW, I believe the new Linn MC...the Kandid is in fact made in Japan by Lyra. Is there still a UK manufactured MC besides the Decc...
High end cartridge made in USA?
Johhnyb53, I think what you say is absolutely correct. Although, I am not sure which high-end MC cart is made in the UK....are you referring to the Deccas? Question is why are no high-end MC's made in the US or Canada. I still don't see a viable r...
High end cartridge made in USA?
Looking at the prices of some/most of the high end MC's from Japan, Switzerland and Holland, I seriously doubt that the manufacturer's are working for 50 cents an hour.
Rel sub cable options
Everest, I don't know what cable you are supplying your customers, BUT the cable that came with my REL was not terminated at the amp end. I added spades as an upgrade.
Rel sub cable options
Regarding the extra long stock REL cable...it is actually VERY easy to cut it down in length to any size that is needed. I think there is a nice increase in SQ when one cuts the cable to the minimum length required. Just be careful you don't cut t...
M&K Lp's...still superb after all these years.
Dan, The infamous eBay is the source for these LP's. Lots of bidders always, so be on the look out.
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
