Longest continuous playing songs
La Monte Young and the Forever Bad Blues Band - "Stompin'"Live at the KitchenOne live track over an hour long that needs to be spread over two CD's. It's sort of ambient/atonal and really quite listenable. I believe it's out of print now; I bought...
Best Linn service in NYC area?
Innovative Audio (Brooklyn Heights/Manhattan) is a long-time Linn dealer (or was; haven't visited for some time). Give a call, I think they only do turntables at one location.
what concerts do you wish you attended?
Pink Floyd 'Animals' (1977) as well.Led Zeppelin 'Physical Graffiti' tour.BTW, 'The Wall' was performed at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, not Madison Square Garden.
Technics 1210/RB-250 vs. stock arm + fluid damper
Alright Tvad, you got me. The fact that I'm going against the audiophile tide to a direct-drive Technics table should be enough of an example to go against the tide of audiophile noise on the tonearm as well. Touché.
Anyone catch Robin Trower on tour?
Looking forward to seeing Trower for the first time at BB King's in NYC later this month. FWIW, I saw Roy Buchanan at My Father's Place in Roslyn, LI, six weeks before he committed suicide; was it something I said?
bookshelf speaker choice
After reading lots of good stuff about them here, I bought a pair of Green Mountain Audio Europa's on Audiogon. For the week I had them, I was very impressed, but they are a bit odd looking (cabinet made of a resin incorporating crushed marble), a...
Best sound on classic rock cds
The remastered Deep Purple (In Rock, Machine Head, Made in Japan, Who Do We Think We Are) on Rhino are excellent as is "In Concert 1970/72" on Spitfire, which, BTW, features FABULOUS performances.
bookshelf or floorstander
one of the British hi-fi mags tested the main monitor vs. the equivalent floorstander within the same line among 4 or 5 different speaker manufacturers (e.g., Quad 11L monitor vs. Qud 21L floorstander). The exact lines/models tested escape my memo...
Your First Concert was.....
11/17/73 - Focus, with the Spencer Davis Group (no Steve Winwood) opening, at the Felt Forum (now known as The Theatre at Madison Square Garden). My friend and I bought tickets just a few days before the show and ended up in a row of folding chairs...
Best HDCD cd's ?
Most Mike Oldfield remasters are HDCD, too.
Holy Moly Blu-Ray Disc Players below $300
I'm not really into video, but it sounds like the half-wits in the mass market electronics / entertainment software industrial complex have finally realized that hardly anyone is going to pay $850 for a fancier DVD player when the one they already...
PWB Headphones, any one hear of 'em?
I've never heard of the headphones (which is surprising, given that I'm a long-time head-fi guy), but IIRC, Peter Belt was a pretty well-known magik tweaker from a decade or more ago. I don't recall any of his tweaks specifically, but they were in...
Your Favorate JBL's from the 70's
I had L-88's with the wood veneer fronts, with cutouts for the grill cloth in front of the woofer and the top 6 inches for the tweeter. As a high school senior in 1974, I had an after-school job and used my savings to buy a Pioneer SX-838 receiver ...
NAD PP2 or PRO-JECT PHONO BOX II
Don't buy either. Get a Gram Amp 2SE used on Audiogon for $250 or less. I had theNAD PP-2 and the Gram Amp 2 SE creams it. Big difference!
anyone mention tull?
I've got the Chrysalis CD remasters of 'Thick as a Brick' and 'Aqualung.' 'TaaB' sounds wonderful, but 'Aqualung' sounds very dull and closed-in in comparison. (Luckily, I've still got them both on vinyl too, including a very sweet MoFi 'TaaB'.)
