LP spindle hole off center There used to be a $7,000 turntable by Nakamichi that could correct for off-center lp's. You could search for one on Audiogon.
Jethro Tull questions... The Chrysalis remaster of Thick as a Brick sounds excellent; strangely, the remaster of Aqualung sounds like there are pillows over the speakers. Go figure.
Bruce at The Super Bowl.... I'm not a big Bruce fan (saw "Darkness" tour in '78), but enjoyed the halftime show a lot. It's supposed to have broad appeal, not meet the high standards of the BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN LUNATIC FRINGE. I think it met its goals.
How much were vinyl records selling for? I worked in a record store in 1978 and list price for a single LP was $8.98; my store sold that lp for $5.49. CD's were introduced in 1982 with a list price of something like $15.98 or $16.98. Can't tell you what they sold for, 'coz I didn't get a...
Does anybody listen to 'CAMEL' ? I first heard Allison Steele play 'The Snow Goose' on WNEW-FM in 1974 it's quite beautiful. I also like 'Mirage' (which includes the Camel classics "Lady Fantasy" and "Nimrodel" suite, the end of which will give you goosebumps) and the first self...
Live Santana... Lotus is available as a regular CD at amazon. They also refer to a "DSD mastered" Japanese version. Not sure which that is, but might be worth looking for.BTW, the Columbia CD remaster of 'Caravanserai' is a revelation, both musically and sonicall...

"Picking On" tribute albums "Picking on Springsteen" was extremely lame. I bought it as a birthday gift for a friend who is a Bruce nut, and it was hard for him to tell which song they were playing (or "picking," I suppose).
Digital front end question Tim,I also used a DVP-s7700 as a transport and thought it was pretty good. Then a friend of mine who has a lot of upmarket gear (Wadia, EMM Labs) suggested that I upgrade, and I did. The Theta Pearl transport ($500 on Audiogon) was worlds better, ...
Chime in.What's the Best Cassette Recorder ever ? Wollensak 4765 (w/ Dolby FM!)
Bagpipes anyone? There is (are?) bagpipes on Mike Oldfield's "Ommadawn." They're not the center of the piece, nor are they there for long, but I remember laughing at my college roommate (who had bought the album) when the bagpipes entered the first time we played ...
Can someone explain the differant CD formats? The only ones that would not be compatible with your CDP are SACD and DVD-A (DVD-Audio).
Something New. Great, I can play it on my phone. Will it feature phabulous Mp3 sound quality, too?!?!?
CBS, Nautilus 1/2 speed DIGITALLY mastered LPs I have the CBS 1/2 speed master lp's of Oldfield/Tubular Bells, Santana/Abraxas, Pink Floyd/Wish You Were Here & Willie Nelson/Stardust. They are spectacular, and very natural sounding, not all pumped up on steroids like the MFSL's can sound. |
