I am confused about 15A and 20A current. You need to have a circuit that's capable of 20A as well as a breaker otherwise you'll end up defeating the point of having a breaker. While I'm pretty sure that standard 12/3 Romex is good for 20A, I'm not qualified to say for sure.
Hissing Martin Logan SL3's It's a long shot, but have you cleaned them recently? If not, you should unplug them for a day and take a vacuum to the panels. While I've never noticed any night-and-day differences with my SL3s, I clean them once or twice a year as routine maint...
RU recording LPs on Reel to Reel ? I have ~750 reels dating from the late 60s to mid-90s. The original reason for recording was to preserve the LPs (particularly when having company over like a party) and they've stood the test of time fairly well. Some of the cheap tape has shed i...
Biggest Live Miss 23 years ago today............ TWL -Mine is a similar story. After hitching from Indiana for several days - with more than a few classic adventures along the way - I arrived late Friday night. My last ride was from a guy going there with tickets and even a motel reservation (re...
reel to reel transfer I'd suggest testing a few of the tapes to see if they are shedding before baking them all, especially the more recent tapes. For more details on baking, check out this link:http://audio-restoration.com/baking.php
The Cat on the Amp One of my cats started to spend winter evenings on top of my McCormack DNA 1/B. He's a smart critter and quickly learned from my loud PSSSSSTs and now sleeps curled up next to the heat sinks. They're far from dumb, they just don't always care....
What's more important; sound or brand name? Definitely brand name ;
M. Logan Requests- Tube Suggestions in $1.5-2K?? You may also consider a McCormack. I'm driving my SL3s with a McCormack DNA 1/B. While I can't compare the sound to the Parasound, I can say it is most musical to my ears, runs reasonably cool, and has dual binding posts at the rear for your biwir...
My name is.....and I am a compliationaholic. Compilations are a great way to check out an artist or a theme, but perhaps best done by checking it out from your local library. It gives you a quick way of checking out an unknown artist's body of work or as an introduction to a new style of music.
Speaker recommendations please Take a look at Reference 3A (http://www.reference3a.com). They have a reasonable range of higher-efficiency speakers that should work well in your environment.
McCormack DNA-225 DLX to Run ML SL3's I'm using a DNA 1/B for my SL3s and am comfortable with their sound. You can find a used DNA 1/A for under $2k and I've seen a DNA 2 right around that point recently. Or you could get a used DNA 1 and have it upgraded to 1/A and have the comfort o...
What are you powering your Martin Logans with???? ML SL3s driven by a McCormack DNA 1/B gives pretty good synergy.
preamp to mate with McCormack DNA 1 I can make a counter suggestion. I'm using a McIntosh C-38 with my DNA 1/B driving ML SL3s. WHile I love the flexibility, durability, and smoothness of the McIntosh, I have a usable volume range between 8 o'clock and 9 o'clock, anything over 9 and...
Opinions on New Reel to Reel Tapes I'll second the TDK GX 35/90B. I have had 2 Teac X7R decks in the system for the last 20 years or so and of the 800+ reels in the library, the best sonically are the TDK. They have also held up the best over the years for shedding, squealing, and ...
Magnepan vs. Martin Logan I haven't heard Maggies, but I do have a pair of ML SL3s with a McCormack amp. They were originally powered by a DNA 0.5, but when I got a pretty good deal on a DNA 1/B I upgraded. The 0.5 was definitely good enough and - while audible - the impro... |
