Help Where to start with jazz?????
I *currently* have a pair of MartinLogan SL3s with my DNA 1/B and they sound wonderful, especially on jazz, vocals, strings, etc. I've heard better for rock, but these are still fairly punchy. Unfortunately we're downsizing and they won't work in ...
Universal Remotes for hifi components?
I was so pleased with the Sony RM-VL900 that I got for my 2-channel system (it was the only one I found that properly dealt with my McIntosh pre) I ended up getting another 2 for the HT system. My wife and I each have one up there and having the a...
best non guitar rock solo
Whoops! It seems that changing the subject seemed to lose the message here. My recommendation was for Nicky Hopkins doing Edward the Mad Shirt Grinder on Quicksilver's Shady Grove disk.

Can I suspend / hang speakers?
Bottom line is that this system is for "dad" who is not likely an audiophile, else he'd be setting it up himself. With some folks esthetics, convenience, whatever far outweigh imaging, purity of tonal balance and the rest of our arcana. My advice i...
Any vets among the Audiophiles here?
I was a jarhead on Okinawa in '68 when I got my first system - TEAC R2R, Dual table, Sansui receiver, Pioneer speakers. Still use TEAC R2Rs (different ones)...
speakers on fireplace hearth???
I have a similar situation with ML SL3s surrounding a fireplace that has a TV in it - another large glass area that bounces sound. I have a wool numdah (wall hanging) that I hang over the fireplace when I'm not using the TV. My advice is to try so...

Are the speakers bi-polar, di-polar, or have a significant backwave (ported)? If so you may have issues with that large resonating chamber called a chiminey ;
CDs sound better when recorded to tapes?
I've had a similar result with recording to reel-to-reel. Whether it be simply a smoothing of some of the "jaggies", a loss of information elsewhere, or whatever I've found that the reels are slightly more euphonic than the original source. That b...
Ingrid Jensen Recommendation
I quite like "Here on Earth" (Enja).
Help Where to start with jazz?????
If you like what you're hearing, you van start by looking for more of the same. Check out your local library for CDs of the artists that are on KCSM and listen to more of their body of work. As you get comfortble with them expand by checking out a...
Jazz Big Band Recommendations?
A couple to add to your list -Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra has a live album that is one of the all-time best. Great charts and great playing.Maria Schneider has several albums that may catch your fancy.
Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Joe Ely, Guy Clark
Tops on my list are Bring the Family and Slow Turning followed closely by Crossing Muddy Waters. I strongly agree with Rar1's comment concerning the hit or miss quality of some of his stuff. Many of the earlier albums (and even some recent ones li...
Best Amps for Martin Logans????
I started with a McCormack DNA 0.5 and moved up to a DNA 1/B. As you can tell, there are more than a few choices out there ;Enjoy!
Pre-amp to combo with Mccormack DNA 0.5
A comment on using a McIntosh with McCormack. I have a C38 pre mated to a DNA 1/B, and before that it was used with a DNA 0.5. While the sonics are solid - at least to my ears - there is an issue with gain. There are a very limited range of volume...
