Preamp or not. I finally understand the volume thing and explains "sounds better if it's turned up". Much thanks @mlsstl . I hope I wouldn't get too sensitive with the volume meaning small adjustments equal big volume swings. The extra power supply might be a...
Disappointment with Pass Labs - I'm looking for something else I have Crites speakers which are quite similar in sound and setup to the Cornwall IV. I use the Pass XA25 and find it to be quite neutral sounding, dynamic and great imaging. I don't use a preamp. The 25 does not have 2nd harmonic distortion voi...
Replacement for 802 D3s I think.you would like Sonus Faber. They sounded good with Mac.
What 50wpc or higher amps have a totally different sound from Pass Labs, in a good way? The Xa 25 is designed differently. Most Pass amps are voiced with 2nd harmonic distortion. Older ones use different transistors as well. So there is that. MACS sound different with lots of power. Lots of fans.I had Ampzilla and Quattre originals a...
Anything SS sounds better than D'Agostino ? I'm good with my little Pass xa25. Take Sugden for example one dealer that i know of in US. Service? Is a brand still in business or will they be around? Those are questions i would ask unless it doesnt matter and you just replace.
Critical subwoofer tip I've got 2 DIY 10" subs. They are made out of nice birch plywood. The cabinets do not vibrate. They are ported. They are, heaven forbid, wired in stereo. They are crossed over at 100Hz currently. They will play 105dB @ 30Hz. All my crossover ...
Crossover change @jasonbourne52 Thanks for the reply and attempt to help even with my incomplete information. I have a pair of subs and an amp already. My subs are DIY Eminence 10" and a yamaha 350W amplifier. I have used it with great success but just wonder...
I expected more from my speakers (not high end) I would look at some speakers that are fairly efficient. The NAD is not happy with below 4 ohm also. You could have some room acoustic problems. This is a fairly cheap fix and worth it. Sometimes this isnt possible if it is a living room for ex...
Remarkably better sound possible with just 1 system component change? I personally found it very satisfying to see how each step/part was added and noticed an improvement. If I spent my 10k on one thing i would soon want to add another.Sound treatments are cheap at least i didn't spend much. Helps all elements of ...
Benefit of a Newer (Used) DAC - "Bang for the Buck?" I own a Topping and it is quiet, high clarity very dynamic, no rolloff. I paid 630 for it with price match and 2 year warranty. Apos Audio has several brands. 30 day return policy. Schiit is another company. Starting at less than $200. Their...
Klipsch speaker choices Hi i am the OP and love the sound of my CS B. I bought the complete speakers from him. However a different midhorn made from wood looked interesting. The tractrix horn lets some cabinet resonance interfere. I wish i had the expertise, a very high ...
JBL 4349 or Klipsch Cornwall IV Xa25 with Cornwall 4. Perfect. Wilson is completely different sound if you are used to horns. I feel laid back and distant. IMO
Schiit - shipments stopped? Buying habits have changed. We stay home and music is easier on the ears than TV. i am sure they are busy. They sell equipment that performs way above the price point. All their literature states use email. This is much lower cost and all iss...

Not Thrilled with Vandersteen 2CE Sigs - where is the first place to work on? I suspect that the Vandersteen, being hard to drive, have low impedance dips that your amp may not like. Also a moderate priced DAC and streamer would help. For budget purposes, you could spend about $1000 on a streamer and DAC. And find a Cla... |
