Klipsch Speakers
@arcticdeth  The mk IV version of the Heritage line of Klipsch are not harsh.  I own the Heresy IV and can listen to them all day long...  Another strength of the Heresy IV, anyway, is that it still sounds dynamic and expansive at even very low ...
Digital is far better than vinyl
I agree that digital is better than vinyl and I've never understood the passions of the vinylheads other than perhaps nostalgia.
What Gear Has Disappointed You?
@petaluman Yeah, I do still have an Onkyo Integra TX-88 receiver from 1986 that is much better than those 70’s products... closer in sound quality to the new Marantz nr1200, but still the new Marantz is better and plus has just as much power and...
Do speaker cables really make a difference ?
Not really, if you have decent cables in the first place.  ELAC has decent cables, for example, and that's all you'd need.  There are other relatively inexpensive and perfectly capable cables, like Blue Jeans as another has suggested. If you don'...
Are advances in technology making speakers better?
@kingbr  I hear you and can relate! I have switched in numerous speakers over the years to try to find something I like better than my trusty Epi speakers... to little avail.   I only got my Klipsch Heresy IV for something different... are they ...
Do You Tell Others How Much You Have Invested in Your System?
Only if they ask... and as far as my pride goes, I'm most proud of how LITTLE I have spent on my modest secondary system, and it's what I use to "showcase" to anybody interested how great of sound they can get for not much money.   as for my "hi...
Is it worth upgrading a CD player?
+ another one @charles1dad and +1 @kota1 "I’m in the stop adding boxes camp..." But overall: If you like your Marantz, and it’s running like a champ... well, in my opinion roll w it. I mean, how much do you want to spend and how many boxes do ...
What Gear Has Disappointed You?
@jl35 each piece I had was professionally and meticulously refurbed, with supposedly all the best caps etc.  Still not up to even the modest nr1200, on sound quality even (clarity, separation, imaging, bass articulation,... the whole of it) let al...
What Gear Has Disappointed You?
Yes: I went on a vintage binge, excited about the cool aesthetics and supposedly superior construction.  All of the following were inferior in all respects (other than the LOOK of the units... I mean, come on: those old Marantz receivers are true ...
What selections do you play when showing off your system to others?
@wolf_garcia  "Nobody who doesn't already care about great audio really cares about how cool you think your stereo is. They simply do not give a damn generally, and may say something complimentary to be nice...kind of like "Nice train set," or "Ni...
What selections do you play when showing off your system to others?
to name a few:  John Denver, Rocky Mountain High S&G, Bridge Over Troubled Water Fleetwood Mac, Over My Head and I'm So Afraid George Michael and Elton John duet live: Don't Let The Sun Go Down on Me Metallica, Wherever I May Roam Rubens...
Is the seated-centered solo listening to music a dated tech?
The flooding of the space in all directions is the Bose theory...  not that it's necessarily a bad theory, executed properly.  But it's a sacrifice; many of us enjoy precise imaging, and good stereo speakers do convey a soundstage.
Subwoofer suggestions for budget system?
I disagree w Millercarbon. That said, how about an SVS Micro 3000... that comes w all sorts of adjustability, crossover tweaks, equalization to a certain extent even.
Are advances in technology making speakers better?
I'm still running with Epi 100 speakers in two of my systems (Minnesota cabin and bedroom suite) from 1979... still excellent, w new caps and binding posts, and of course woofer foam or new woofer from Human Speakers.  Not trendy, and neutral rich...
Am I Getting Soft Here?
If you love what you have, then that's not "soft"... it's very good news. The softness would come if you give in to upgrade-itis when there is no need to.
