Really Inexpensive Systems That Sounded Great?
20wpc Philips receiver paired with Epi 100 speakers.   Problem was, once they heard it, it embarrassed a lot of people who spent a lot more on big, fancy, expensive, and/or blingy stuff...  I still have those Epi 100 speakers to this day, though...
What I wish I knew before starting my audiophile journey
@musicaddict +1 on both your posts above
I am considering a luxman 3600 tube amp as my first adventure into tube amplifiers?
I gave up on vintage, other than my Epi 100 speakers which remain and will remain, once I did a heads up comparison with even modest new amps... the vintage stuff went right out the door, as pretty as it all was.
Ozzy is done
Saw him do a Black Sabbath show - w a couple Ozzy solo hits thrown in for good measure - at the Hollywood Bowl about ten (?) years ago.  Excellent show, w the always-spooky opener War Pigs to kick things off.   Yep, Ozzy's a trooper... btw,  li...
What I wish I knew before starting my audiophile journey
@antialiased  "An interesting observation I've made is that the older audiophiles tend to focus on things lower in the chain, like speakers and amps. The digital generation values and focuses on cleaning up the source and thinks that makes more ...

@jgandy +1 "I have always been audiophile atheist regarding wires, power conditioning, audiophile magazines (although I have subscribed to both since their inception), and  most of the myriad other ancillary devices marketed to the audiophile." ...

@yogiboy @lewm I am not a "big time" investor, and I am not a money manager looking for new clients. I am a systematic and patient investor, using the power of compounding and time over decades to ultimately produce a reliable income that mean...

all that said,  congratulations on your Kenwood.  I'm sure it's a very nice piece.

@lewm your statements about the S&P 500 show how unsophisticated you are when it comes to money...  so it wouldn't surprise me if you think stereo gear represents a sound long-term investment strategy...  But like I said, if people have mo...
What CDs to buy
Thanks for the suggestions! Yeah, I like Wynette and Springfield.... and of course Emmylou Harris, Cowgirls Prayer and Wrecking Ball, for example. I’ll check out the TEF suggestion too.

@jimmyblues +1 sir..  "Ironically, after all these years my hearing is not what it used to be and I listen less critically now, and simply enjoy the music itself. The high end gear is long gone, yet I have settled with some nice components that f...
What is the current retail cost of your reference system?
@jrosemd +1 "... spending too much money..."   @grislybutter +1 "... about 6k...." and  "of course it is - it is one of the most selfish way to spend money and time.  This post proves it. It is a self-serving, genitals comparing thread with prett...

@jerryg123 all is well, jerry. "Diminishing returns" does depend on one's measure, and some can be measured, and some are purely subjective...  And if spending more and more money equates to equally more subjective enjoyment, well that's fine, ...

@cpdkee and everyone else, for that matter: Spend your money on whatever you want. It’s your money. Only you can decide if you’re being frivolous or not. You decide your own values, and by definition how you use your money reflects your values. ...
What CDs to buy
@bdp24  I for one appreciate your perspective. It is true that "audiophiles" often fall into the trap of worshipping equipment and "sound quality" (which is of course a subjective term) - and for many, as is unfortunately evidenced on so many thre...
