Friends hi-fi system not very good, what do you do or say?
Say nothing. This is not a contest akin to “my bike is better than your bike.” We’re grown ups now. Be happy with your bike. That’s all that matters.

^ Can’t wait to see these OB’s. People who are against OB’s haven’t heard all OB’s. Their designs are endless.
Jazz for aficionados
Yes indeed, RIP Quincy Jones. Quincy won every possible award and excelled over 4 decades, from Sinatra to Michael Jackson, Quincy produced a countless number of stars to greater heights, and was the voice behind a generation of talent. His career...

Give me some old school jazz from the 50’s and 60’s. Although I definitely dig some Roy Hargrove! https://youtu.be/1w3FVfkBVTE?si=kJkcMsnqAq9g21xz
Looking for more advice on purchasing a new turntable.
+1 for that VPI HRX listed for sale on AG. I’m guessing it could be purchased for $5k or less!
Recommendations for a jazz record which demonstrates vinyl superiority over digital
Jazz doesn’t, and shouldn’t appeal to everyone. It’s like a very rare and fine wine, which only a few appreciate. Music theory isn’t necessary to appreciate jazz, nor is it complicated. Jazz uses the same 12 notes used in Classical music. So how ...

@phillyb, Great take! I could not agree more. But first you’ve got to have an open mind. I’ve owned Electrostats for over 40 years. For years CLSiiz’s were my speakers of choice. I relished in their midrange which I believed was not matched by box...

@richardbrand, being a fan of Classical you may relate to Wes Montgomery records from the 60’s. All of his stuff with producer Creed Taylor was done with string arrangements. Wes received criticism for abandoning his pure jazz roots, but these rec...
Recommendations for a jazz record which demonstrates vinyl superiority over digital
@richardbrand, I didn’t mean it as an insult. We’re a similar age, that simply walked different paths. I enjoy Classical too. But my collection is mainly jazz and popular music from the 60’s, 70’s. Each of us had different influences. Wes Montgome...
Recommendations for a jazz record which demonstrates vinyl superiority over digital
@lewm, not in the least. I know where jazz’ bread is buttered. But as bebop became dominant the majority of listeners were forever lost. I don’t mind, because bebop was a natural step for new jazz. Personally, bebop was a statement by certain musi...
Recommendations for a jazz record which demonstrates vinyl superiority over digital
Before there was a thing called Rock n Roll, there was jazz. At one time in America it was jazz that was the popular music of the younger generation. Who cares it got side tracked by a thing called bebop. The musicians desired, and deserved, to be...

@bache Every speaker design has “issues.” You doubt OB’s, as if you’ve heard every OB. And yet here you are representing yourself as knowledgeable. Perhaps you’re filled with as many assumptions as knowledge? Personally, one thing I believe peopl...

@toddalin That’s very interesting because a lot of classic jazz guitar amplifiers also use Alnico speakers. They’re some of the finest tones to be had from a jazz guitar amp, of course powered by tube amplification.

Like box speakers, every OB is unique. People are referring to OB’s as if each is the same simply because they’re OB’s. I fail to understand the logic in that. Those I posted were each created by one custom builder. They’re not a speaker for ever...
