new interface/front-end for audiophile system Have you tried using programs that interface with iTunes like Audirvana and Pure Music. These programs have trial periods so there is no risk in trying them. You might find they offer some benefit. While I have a lot of respect for Jim Hagerman I ...
Better software for DSD JRiver for Mac along with the JRemote app is a nice solution. It is what I migrated to from iTunes/Audirvana as I wanted to completely divorce myself from iTunes. Since then I have also divorced myself from JRiver.
Help me set up new stereo system Some of the software packages like JRiver come with EQ and other DSP capabilities but you do not have to use these features. I did not use them but I occasionally used the up sampling features.
Help me set up new stereo system I highly suggest not relying on iTunes as the playback engine, especially if you will eventually be downloading DSD. Audirvana Plus will interface to the iTunes library nicely. If you want to divorce yourself from iTunes then go with JRiver which ...
Help me set up new stereo system My advice would be to get the MacMini to start. Having a computer dedicated to music playback is better than using a shared computer if you care about sound quality. If you like using iTunes as the library then configure it to import CDs as descri...

Is computer audio a bust? PLEX looks very interesting. I will give it a try and compare to MinimServer. I can see already PLEX offers some interesting features, just not sure I want to complicate things. I do like the simplicity of MinimServer.

Big cartridge screws? Maybe I got a bad batch but I bought a set of those Soundsmith EZ mounts from a retailer and only one set of the four weighed what the specs said they should weigh. The others were all higher than the stated weight and two of those sets were nearl...
Is computer audio a bust? Andrew, it was what was subtracted by adding Ethernet that made the difference in my opinion. No more reliance on Mac Mini and all the tweaks/upgrades.No more reliance on JRiver or other music software packages to play music. No more reliance on USB...
Is computer audio a bust? Wired Ethernet network has had the most impact on sonics by far of any other computer-based configurations.
4 ohm taps on an 8 ohm speaker Roger Modjeski explains his reasoning behind this in the RM-10 manual. He refers to it as light loading. You essentially are increasing the damping. It also reduces distortion, and improves tube life as the output tubes do not have to work as hard...
What happened to Jfox I too miss some of the former contributors, particularly Sean. Let's also not forget former contributors that have departed this world, for me in particular Lugnut and Pubul57 (who became a good friend as a result of meeting via this site).
reel to reel repair in los angeles You might want to try Adrian Pro Audio in Sherman Oaks. He is a former Otari tech and he works on reel to reel decks. |
