Hard Drive based system The TRL mod is that good. I have a transport and DAC modified by TRL. I also had a USB interface device that I was using to play music from a HD via my TRL DAC. I won't mention vendor names but this is one of those modified M-Audio Transits and I ...
CDP Upgrade Have you checked out the TRL Marantz SA-14 thread out? I believe this CDP does exactly what you describe you needs are. With mods it will cost about $1800 total.I do not have the TRL Marantz SA-14, but TRL has modified my transport and DAC and I c...
audio mirror dac Audphile - You're not raining on my parade. The similarity is where it begins and ends (I have a Lite DAC and actually took it apart because I am having a custom case made for the Audio Mirror and needed a model to work from). The topic has been b...
audio mirror dac Audphile1 - negotiate with him. 5 days is a joke. I personally like Vlad but a marketing genius he is not. I would be interested in your observations, considering you will be comparing the new non-os D2 to an upsampling DAC2.BTW - I have not heard...
Liquid CD treatments? Nickb - I am using the new clear liquid that I experienced the clouding with.
audio mirror dac Audphile you're correct. I did try other DACs, including the Bel Canto DAC1 (which lead me to seek out an audition of the DAC2 figuring Bel Canto couldn't make another lemon like the DAC1), in my system and compared them to the Audio Mirror, but a...
TRL Marantz Sa-14 La45 - yes this is the new line of solid state amps. The ST-225 integrated has been out for a little while and while that was something I was interested in, I decided to keep my Joule Electra LA-100 MkIII as a tube preamp and TRL was experimenting...
Do tube dampers improve sound? I've done well with Herbies Halos as well. However, it is important to note that the use of Herbies Halos is not an exact science. While there is a recommended position for them, you can and should experiment with placing the Halos at different po...
TRL Marantz Sa-14 Listening to the D225 now and spoke to Brian Weitzel today about my initial impressions. Right now the low end is performing fantastic. The mid-range is coming around and the vocals are exquisite. The high end is a bit harsh but after a 100 hours ...
Liquid CD treatments? I have used Auric Illuminator and found that if not applied properly it leaves a cloudy film on the CD. I switched to Shine Ola and not only does it not leave any residue, it is easy to use, and I have noticed some sound enhancements.
Tube or SS for Vocals/Strings The F2 I believe is the First Watt designed by Nelson Pass. The First Watt amps are getting very good press here and elsewhere. The Aleph J looks interesting as well.
Anybody hear the new PS Audio Phono Box?????? Try the Decware ZP phono stage. It comes in various models and is in your price range. Tubes, load adjustment, MM or MC switch. The one I tried did not have a phase switch, but Steve Decker builds these to order so it's possible he could add one. ...
How accurate is the Geo-Disc cartridge alignment ? Good points Thom. There are lots of options out there. I have used a Geodisc and a Dennesen in the past. Both have positives and negatives. As for the Wally Tractor, while I believe it is a great tool, the problem with it for me is Wally's turnaro...
Tube or SS for Vocals/Strings Interesting in that I was not going to join this thread until it became evident that the room size and speaker efficiency of Baroque_lover's set-up is very close to mine. I have been using a 50 watt triode push-pull amp with my 88db speakers for s...
Preamp with most dynamic contrast? I found mine in the Joule Electra LA-100MkIII. It actually started out as an LA-200 and Jud Barber upgraded it for me. The LA-100 MkIII is available new for around $4k including remote (I have the dual volume version and not the volume/bass versio... |
