TRL Marantz Sa-14
Listening to the D225 now and spoke to Brian Weitzel today about my initial impressions. Right now the low end is performing fantastic. The mid-range is coming around and the vocals are exquisite. The high end is a bit harsh but after a 100 hours ...
Liquid CD treatments?
I have used Auric Illuminator and found that if not applied properly it leaves a cloudy film on the CD. I switched to Shine Ola and not only does it not leave any residue, it is easy to use, and I have noticed some sound enhancements.
Tube or SS for Vocals/Strings
The F2 I believe is the First Watt designed by Nelson Pass. The First Watt amps are getting very good press here and elsewhere. The Aleph J looks interesting as well.
Anybody hear the new PS Audio Phono Box??????
Try the Decware ZP phono stage. It comes in various models and is in your price range. Tubes, load adjustment, MM or MC switch. The one I tried did not have a phase switch, but Steve Decker builds these to order so it's possible he could add one. ...
How accurate is the Geo-Disc cartridge alignment ?
Good points Thom. There are lots of options out there. I have used a Geodisc and a Dennesen in the past. Both have positives and negatives. As for the Wally Tractor, while I believe it is a great tool, the problem with it for me is Wally's turnaro...
Tube or SS for Vocals/Strings
Interesting in that I was not going to join this thread until it became evident that the room size and speaker efficiency of Baroque_lover's set-up is very close to mine. I have been using a 50 watt triode push-pull amp with my 88db speakers for s...
Preamp with most dynamic contrast?
I found mine in the Joule Electra LA-100MkIII. It actually started out as an LA-200 and Jud Barber upgraded it for me. The LA-100 MkIII is available new for around $4k including remote (I have the dual volume version and not the volume/bass versio...
Tube's needed, 6922's or equal for Preamp Qty.3
Andy is the best, but I have also had good luck with Brendan Biever at www.tubeworld.com. Tube Depot is another place you may want to try.
Finding Pure Water for Record Cleaning - very long
I'm with Jes45. Great information, but for the cost I'll trust the RRL research and save myslef some time and effort.
What EL34 and 12AU7 NOS tubes...
I use Siemens EL-34s which I like a lot and have read a lot of good things about Mullards, EH, JJ, and cryoed Svetlana C wings. As for 12AU7s there are too many good ones out there, but Telefunken, Mullard and Amperex seem be to be the ones everyo...
Just bought a nitty gritty, hear no difference.
Nice points Thom. This is a lesson I've learned fist hand myself.
How come there is no thread on the RealityCheck?
Tbg,Your points are well taken. It does take more than hype to sell a product. Some have done quite well on the hype cycle while they were the darlings of the reviewers and consumers, only to quietly, or in a few cases, not so quietly disappear in...
How come there is no thread on the RealityCheck?
Tbg,While opinion on the sonic quality of an LP record can be debated with each side having valid points, the LP record is still today a viable medium for music reproduction. Yes at one time it was a revolutionary concept, but over the years it ha...
