building zobels Kal,Does the quality of the resistors that make up the Zobel with the Alpha Core cables matter as it relates to sound quality? I was wondering if it made sense to use better quality resistors, although with the way the Zobel is integrated into my ...
Hard Drive based system Ecruz,I couldn't resist and I bought one as well. I'll probably send mine out after the New Year.
building zobels Bombywalla,You bring up an interesting point which I am not sure of myself. With the Alpha Core Goertz MI-II Veracity cables I have, the Zobel network is integrated in the cable and is positioned where the spade terminations are. I hook those ends...
narrowing down my decision If you buy the Audio Mirror once you listen to it after it has broken in you will not consider it a budget piece. You will consider it a great deal. I used mine with a Cary V12i 50 watt triode push-pull amp and it worked fabulously. My transport i...
TRL Marantz Sa-14 Jsala,My speakers are not very efficient either, Spendor 1/2e, but the amp is getting the most out of them now. After some initial issues with break-in, I think the Joule and the D-225 work nicely together. I am using the CRL Silver on my transpor...
building zobels If I recall correctly the Merlin speaker website has instructions and examples that you can see. You can also call Alpha Core. Their speaker cables sometimes require Zobel networks so they can probably instruct you as well.
Transistor Research Labs ST-225 Integrated amp Paul,I was using a Cary V12i stereo amp (I have it listed here now). I had it outfitted with 12 NOS Siemens EL-34s, 2 NOS Aperex 6DJ8s and 2 early Russian 7139/EL-84s. Combined with my Joule Electra LA-100 MkIII this was a very rich and warm set-u...
Joule Electra OPS-1 or 2 MkIII Nelsjay,Thanks for the response. It was as I expected it to be. I have also heard that the LA-150 is a bit closer to solid state in its sound. I am very happy with the LA-100 MkIII and would not consider buying a new LA-150, but if I saw a used on...
Audiophiles DO NOT USE DHL-READ MY NIGHTMARE Unfortunately what we experience in these case is the concept of risk management on behalf of the shipping vendor. From a financial perspective they know exactly how much it costs them to risk manage a damaged goods claim. As someone else pointed ...
"Off" vs. "Standby" and tube life I have a Joule Electra LA-100 MkIII and have left it on 24 x 7 the last couple of weeks while breaking in a new amp. In light of what Jud Barber says it will now most likely stay on, with the exception of extended time away from home.On the other ...
Schroeder arm mounting A good source for information would be Thom Mackris at Galibier Design. If you are not familiar with Thom he builds TTs and uses Schroeder arms.
Transistor Research Labs ST-225 Integrated amp Paul,He's probably too busy listening to respond:) I actually received the latest model, the D-225 which is a non-integrated version. If you're interested you can email me and I'll send you a photo. I have about 250 hours on it and it has opened u...
Joule Electra OPS-1 or 2 MkIII Nelsjay,I too was looking to upgrade to the LA-150 from the LA-100 MkIII. Jud informed me that they do not do this upgrade anymore due to reliability issues. Based on your post I imagine your unit is fine. How would you compare the LA-100 MkIII to...
Record Cleaning Fluids: RRL vs. L'Art du Son Well said Dougdeacon, as a new user of RRL fluids I have to say my initial experiences are similar to yours. I have tried a home made solution before and of course the VPI solution that came with my record cleaning machine. The RRL has been the be...
Need advice ono a Tube preamp You can accomplish what you want with a tube preamp. However, rather than focusing on the number of tubes a preamp has I would rate your priorities as follows:1. Design, including how the tubes are used in the signal path and/or power supply.2. Th... |
