Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
lewmWhen I purchased my DP80, it was not running correctly. It did "run" but there was a problem; at this point in time I've forgotten what it was. It's a 100VAC model, and the seller told me he ran it with 120VAC. No wonder it was problema...
Radio interference caused by power cord?
leemaze When my Resolution Audio CD50 is left on, my NAD 7175PE gets very poor radio reception. If I pull the antenna wire away from the back of the unit towards the front it gets better. If I turn off the CD player the static goes away. Wh...
Best DIY power cable. Why not make?
williewonkaA word of warning regarding the use of solid core conductors for power cables...They can...- break- come out of the plugs/connectorsYup! That's why UL listed cords are always stranded. Solid core is for use only up to the receptacle.

thyname @2channel8: would this be designed as it should be (XLR male to RCA male and preserve the balanced signal for the Ayre k-1xe)?http://silversonic.com/products/interconnects/bl-1/No. To preserve a balanced signal, you'll need separate hot a...
Who thinks $5K speaker cable really better than generic 14AWG cable?
bdfar5K cables, heck $500 cables are for people who just think they need to spend more and more and then some more on their audio system. It's almost sinful, but then again to each his own. To people who don't believe me I always have 2 wo...
Fidelity Research FR-64x
This is a terrific pickup arm - I used for one years on an Oracle and it sounded wonderful. When I upgraded to an SME V, I sold the Oracle and FR to a friend, who uses it still. And it still sounds great. Please note that one of the self-appointed...
Dealers hijacking the discussions
wolf_garciaI second the distaste one can have about the ridiculous misuse of these forums to promote stuff…there are blatant examples of this with exaggerated and preposterous multi paragraphed promotional screeds ...These are moderated forums...
Publication bias and confounders in product reviews - TAS, Stereophile, Audiogon, etcetera
willemjIf the methodological standards common in audio publications and audiophile forums applied to medical science life expectancy would be halved. That's a false comparison. Audio publications are hobbyist magazines, not scientific journals...
Balanced cables
ronresDo balanced interconnects, perhaps because of common mode noise rejection, tend to suppress even order harmonics?I don't think so, or even understand how that could be possible.
Balanced cables
handymannBalanced cables are a huge asset ... You have two separate signal wires, both shielded by the woven mesh. This eliminates possible 60hz hum, or IR interference, that can and sometimes will present itself, when using SE cables.Again,...
Balanced cables
transaudio The reason most pros use XLR is noise floor- having a shield that encloses the positive and negative audio cable inside to protect it from outside noise.  No, pros use balanced XLR cables because of their Common Mode Rejection Ra...
Kenwood ka5700 A+B speaker hookup
jblitz99 0Im wondering if the signal to the sub from speaker B on the amp would be affected by the bose equalizer? It most certainly will if the equalizer is engaged through the tape loop circuit
odd music times pieces
The Mission Impossible theme is in 5/4 time, which composer Lalo Schifrin is said to have joked is for people with five legs.
Kenwood ka5700 A+B speaker hookup
Doesn't the Bose Equalizer work at line level? if so, connecting the sub to one set of speaker outputs and the Bose pair to another won't work.
