Organ CDs with really deep bass
ken_andrewSACDs generally sound better because of the greater effort required to record them.Huh? Please explain why it is more difficult to record for an SACD than it would be for any other format.
Can you hear the difference?
horenceFLAC is much closer to lossless quality, but it is not totally lossless. FLAC is bit-perfect, no? That would make it lossless. I'm used to convert Spotify music with lossless quality from using the tool-Spotify Music Converter for Mac. It ...
Old vs. new
chakster all the pressing machines, cutting lathes... are all vintage, they can modify it with new parts, but these equipment is no longer made. You're mistaken - there are several companies manufacturing new pressing machines, such as Viryl an...
Old vs. new
lowrider57... to reissue an album, a digital file is created from the analogue tape and becomes the new master. Not necessarily. Some reissues are made from analog tape.
Powercon connectors for AC
zipostthe neutrik powercon in my opinion will give you a better grip, holds better than the regular iec plugs. Agreed. The Powercon is a locking connector.... you can’t use other after market power cords.  you are stuck with the powercon type ...
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
n80... the glaring absence of anything approaching credible and reproducible evidence creates a certain level of warranted skepticism and dismissal. And I suspect those who moan and groan the most about testing are those who stand to lose the most...
Where are the blind streaming quality tests?
n80Double-blinded randomized tests of this sort need not be overly complicated. Yes, they will be tedious. Yes, the design would need to be just right. Yes, the stats can be a little mind numbing. But it would not be expensive or even time consum...
How are you hearing no difference?
bigjoe... 1st off Agon isn't going to allow any peer reviewed white papers to be posted that disprove 90% of audiophile snake oil ...I think you are mistaken. I've never seen any indication that Audiogon limits content in the fashion you descri...
Where are the blind streaming quality tests?
Conducting a scientifically valid double-blind listening test involves much more than just having a buddy "switch between lossless audio and compressed without your knowledge." And if the test doesn't follow scientific protocols, its results are o...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
daveyf We are ONLY talking about cartridges here...not amps, not digital gear, not speakers etc., All of these items can be easily demo’ed in the consumers system ...Sorry, but many serious speaker systems and amplifiers are bulky, heavy, diffi...
Powercon connectors for AC
There are no drawbacks of which I'm aware. I have an old 20A API isolation transformer that uses a Neutrik Powercon connector, and never had an issue.
Looking forward to reviews of this new Yamaha 5000 series stereo amp when it hits the US
It looks like the straight pickup arm on the companion GT-5000 turntable is truly straight, with a zero-degree offset angle. Very odd! The are other arms that use zero offset (such as the ViV Labs), but I've never listened to such an arm. Does any...
Power Conditioners: Audioquest Niagara 5000 or Shunyata Denali 6000S
skyscraper I am going to use a dedicated Romex line straight to the power conditioner from the service panel, so there will be no power cord to it. It's almost like hard wiring, except I'll put a C19 12AWG 20 amp hospital grade plug on the en...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
daveyf I agree with you, it is a tricky landscape ... But does it also explain the circumstances that I put in my OP?Frankly, I don't think so. Buying a phono cartridge needn't be a multi-year nightmare. It has certainly always been a rather plea...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
roberjerman ... the dealer makes a profit in US dollars of approximately $1500+ on a $5K sale. I worked in a high-end audio store and I saw what the actual costs were for many products. No altruism there!A store is a business, not an altruist...
