Tandberg TCD 3014 problem with playing
If the unit was serviced by Tandberg, it would have been many years ago. The company hasn’t serviced or supported any of its tape decks in eons.If you are in the US, the best Tandberg service is from Soundsmith, hands down.
Are 500 hours too many for a used hi-end cartridge?
vegasearsNo, buying a used cartridge is like buying a used tooth brush.I couldn't agree more. It amazes me that some here actually recommend used cartridges that have been out of production for decades.
Advice on setting VTA
I do almost exactly what @wlutke does, except I use the VTA block to set VTA - as recommended by the cartridge manufacturer - and then check by sighting the actual cantilever, rather than using the cartridge body or pickup arm themselves as a refe...
How do you sort your LPs?
I really can't imagine any practice other than basic alphabetical filing. Yes, I have a separate section for classical, and also for greatest hits collections that include multiple artists. (I collect radio station greatest hits collections. Pleas...
IM Distortion, Speakers and the Death of Science
erik_squires We have become far too happy with this stale condition, and, for the consumers, science is dead. This is the logical fallacy of the excluded middle. That measurements may be imperfect does not support the conclusion that science is ...
ARC SP-6C onboard phono amp vs. Schiit Mani
plink-plonk The SP-6C phono amp does pretty well but i have to say that the signal output is markedly lower than any of the SP-6C's aux outputs. It requires an increase in gain from the SP-6C of about 10% or so.That really doesn't matter, unl...
VTA on the fly
lewm... my point is that a tiny change in vta such as might be expected by a half turn on a micrometer type vta adjuster would likely make such minute changes to vtf, etc, as to be inconsequential ...You might be right, but it's hard to be su...
VTA on the fly
lewm ... the change in VTF and overhang are so miniscule ... as to be inaudible even to a pair of Golden Ears such as your own ...I've never, ever claimed to have "Golden Ears." I'm pretty sure most people can hear what I hear, if they take the...
Non-transferable warranties?
minorl If I buy a car with a 100,000 mile/four year warranty and I sell the car after two years with 20,000 miles on it. That car is still under warranty. There may be exceptions, but I’m not aware of any vehicle manufacturer that offers a trans...
John Prine, singer, songwriter, legend - Dead at 73 from COVID-19
tooblueSitting here spinning some JP with alligator tears in my eyes ...Alligator tears? Why alligator tears?Or, maybe, you don’t know what "alligator tears" means.
VTA on the fly
VTA-on-the-fly is a handy feature, but it’s no magic bullet for phono cartridge setup. That’s because when you change VTA/SRA, you also change VTF and - more importantly - overhang. So if your overhang was correct before adjusting VTA, it will be ...
I need advice for power cords
bobedwards101A $5,000 power cord is limited by your house wiring, no matter what claims might be made by the manufacturer. That’s an interesting claim. Have you ever tried a premium power cord? Or, are you so convinced that it wouldn’t make a diff...

jdmccall56 The article referenced is an oldie but it too, is legit. The article is just hearsay, with opinion and speculation ladled on top.
