My pet peeve: "revealing" speakers
'reveal' is a transitive verb. This speaker is revealing......what?Unless what is revealed is specified, the use of the term 'revealing' is meaningless.  So please stop.In the main there are only three groups of phenomena that might be revealed:1. ...
An Odd Question
Why not damp the strings when not being played?Just thread a felt strip between them. The bodies will still resonate though.  So get a Stratocaster.Or buy one of guitarsam's.  He doesn't like Fenders.  He knows everything about guitars 'n all.
Cerious technologies or audio envy
You cannot be Cerious.
Soundstage gone
Yeah.  The mono issue is definitely incorrect connections at the cartridge or two wires/connectors touching. If you are in full-time mono that will explain the loss of soundstage!!!If it persists after you get stereo back, it is likely then down do...
Shipping. Hard Lesson.
ALWAYS keep the manufacturer's original packaging with the piece. The manufacturer had the packaging developed and proved fit for purpose and shipped hundreds of pieced to prove it.I have original packaging for pieces I bought in the 1980s.  Kept i...
"Bridge Over Trouble Water" sounds artificial
Sorry pjr801 and wolfie, there's no remedy for this recording.Agree entirely with jctf and mozartfan.Right from the get-go this was a poor recording showing terrible distortion in the repeated sung choruses towards the end.I bought the LP when iss...
Does It Even Matter?
In digital all the bits ARE the same.  Even a cheap disc reader will make less than one reading error in millions of bits.  Same with wire transmissions assuming a good connection. It that were all, it would be perfect sound forever. The differences...
Replacing driver screws with brass screws
In a properly designed speaker, the drivers will not be fixed to the cabinet with wood screws.  Obviously these will work loose very quickly because of the vibrations of the driver. They should be fixed with bolts running right through the cabinet ...
Replacing driver screws with brass screws
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc.  Small amounts of other metals are often added.  Crucially the proportions of all the contituents is variable.  So the content of brass is not fixed as for say iron.Point no.1       Not all brass is the same, ...
Replacing driver screws with brass screws
What about gold-plated brass screws?Remember the first Krells?  KSA50 and KSA100.  They have these fixing the front panel to the chassis. Now I had always thought they were there as decoration????
Poor value vs snake oil...
This is a dud thread. It is just a regurgitation of the measurements vs. ears story. So one man's snake oil is another man's value purchase. There can be no universally true definition.END OF THREAD please.
This looks like a terrible investment
No way a bulk sale will fetch $15 per disc.More like $5, as suggested above.Sold on a table at sales, many titles will take years to shift.Perhaps just stay home and listen?
Crutchfield's Speaker Compare
The only way this could be useful is if the Crutchfield sound reproduction is a perfect representation of the speaker itself. This is about as likely as Vladimir Putin giving up power in Russia. And if it were so, why buy the speakers, save the mone...
An EXPERIMENT for those who have never heard differences in cables
Yes indeedy robjerman.  The only way you'll get a difference is to use speaker wire that cannot handle the load.Another useful experiment with thin wire is to enter it into your left ear and push gently until it exits your right ear.  Pull through...
100v,115v versus 230v
a few observationsmillercarbon  'the US is really 240v but you get 110v in your wall.??eerrrrgh.  In UK the local substations get 7kV but it doesn't mean that is in your wall. But yes, good contact with 220v is quite a jolt.  I know from when it wa...
