How to choose a cartridge?
No substitute for listening.   But I have to say I have bought all my carts 'blind'. OP is correct.  Too many to listen to and dealers rightly don't like lending carts as once opened resale value slides right off the scale. I have ART1000, Ortof...
Potential Pair of Great Bookshelf Speakers for Sale!
@rongvk    a Rong decision! A strange way to go about things.  You have the Totems that you like, so you go out and buy a pair of Harbeths.  Now you can't make up your mind which you want to keep.  But if you sell the Harbeths you will do in near...
dust protection for turntables
The problem with acrylic dust covers is that they easily become statically charged and then attract dust.  You might say this is good as they pull dust up from the turntable but generally they just bring more dust into the area. Light cloth cover...
The Visual History of Hi-Fi Turntables
Pleasing this poster ignores all the bloated, blingy, over-engineered, overweight overpriced, turntables of the last 15 or so years that do nothing to improve the sound that can be obtained from a properly engineered 'normal' turntable. VERY disc...
How do you judge audio components and speakers?
Don't agonise so much about these subjective psychological constructs. Just sit down, relax and enjoy the music.
New Analog Technology???
Assuming this isn't just false news, the most interesting aspect is that Dylan recently recorded new versions of at least an LPs? worth of old repertoire. Why would he want to do this for a small private company, even if it is run by an old mate?...
Gapless
Thanks again @noske I am going to retire hurt from this thread and go and put on an LP.  They mostly have gaps, except for Sergeant Pepper and Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands. All record players play gaps if there are gaps and no gaps if there are...
Gapless
Thanks @noske.  So gapless seems to be a useless technology that requires another technology to enable its normal use.  If that is a feature, it certainly isn't a useful one.
Gapless
What is gapless playback? Is it like the zipless f***?
Dust cover up or down?
Art Dudley was one of the nice guys and a great writer, but an arch-tweaker and inclined to believe the voodoo.
Dust cover up or down?
@lewm  I've just re-read the thread and as I thought, no-one said they had measured a difference in VTF.  Two said there might be a difference. So far then the score is nil posters have measured any difference.  We've all got those digital scale...
How do you arrange the order of your records?
No, but they did mentioned autobiographical. It now occurs to me that OPs chosen listening will get warped by standing them in the stereo heat between his monoblocs.
Led Zeppelin 11
YYAAAAAWWNNN.......... What a boring thread.  Mainly about spelling of paltry and how to write Led Zep Two - there that's clear now.  The Roman empire ended about 17 long centuries ago. On the spelling, most people can't do it as it's not taught...
Dust cover up or down?
It is true the cover may transmit air-borne vibrations to the stylus/disc interface. But it may also be true that it shields that interface from those vibrations by acting as a a barrier whose micro flexures absorb them. Anyhow my TT has no cove...
Turn off or leave on?
Mad to leave tube amps on 24/7.  However hard your amp is on tubes and whatever their expected life, if you listen 3 hours a day every day you are wasting 87.5% of their lives.  That will be expensive. I don't believe Bob Carver that any tube ret...
