Sound is better when I stand up?
It's the tall chair back and wings continuing behind your head - and ears. Choose a chair that doesn't extend higher than your shoulders so your ears are directly exposed to all room boundaries. And don't worry about that 8'3" equilateral triang...
So, I listened to a $1Million Dollar System
@ozzy    It may be that the sound of the system simply did not suit your taste - we each have different sound preferences.  Presumably your own (much cheaper?) system does suit your taste.  So just to put us in the picture please let us know the c...
Nobosound Springs
@carlsbad    Thanks, but no, in fact my math is incorrect.  I forgot to divide the figure by 100 for the kg mass of the speakers, so I am left with only 22 zeros. Yes, my experience has been that well adjusted spikes to hold the speaker utterly r...
Are advances in technology making speakers better?
Many are speaking of changes as if they are advances.  Many changes are not advances or are seen later as not advances.  Changes can be a form of confirmation bias especially for those who devise them but also for unwary punters.  It can take time...
Nobosound Springs
Boing boing.   @carlsbad    It's horses for courses.  If you have a floor that moves and can be driven by vibrations in the speakers then yes, go for springs.  It you have a solid floor, spikes are best.  If I lay a heavy concrete slab on footin...
Why do Tube Amps sound more romantic v SS amps
@aseaman007    For many the objective is to reproduce accurately the original performance.  The original performance many have been 'romantic'.  If you are listening to single-ended, there will be distortion.  Some people like it but they may not ...
Disappearing Jazz?
If demand for jazz is reducing, so will be supply of new jazz. The few modern artists I have heard are not a match for the greats from the 50s thru the 70s. Like many, for me most jazz is noodling (thank you FZ).
Is the seated-centered solo listening to music a dated tech?
No. The young kids solo in their room on the phone for half of their lives. And it's not even in stereo.
Good read: why comparing specifications is pointless
I'd like to slag off most of the posters on this thread. From what they say, it just seems like the right thing to do.... Translation:  try to be objective and less personal. On point.  Comparing specifications is utterly pointless unless you a...
What should be mandatory in every professional published review-
@jeffseight    Don't you mean 'product evaluation'?
What should be mandatory in every professional published review-
MEASUREMENTS.
Is the seated-centered solo listening to music a dated tech?
Not dated tech. The only way to listen to music.  From a front soundstage the simple two microphone set-up cannot be beaten. And why should listening privately to music in your home necessarily be a social event?
What selections do you play when showing off your system to others?
Beatles for Sale.    MFSL   'I'm a Loser'. Lennon is in the room even though he died 42 years ago. One of the many 'proper' MFSLs that has the best recorded sound ever achieved.
I keep being reminded of how much power cords mater
This post is truly one for the religious.  In religion, people believe what the high priests tell them and engineer their lives and experiences to match the standardised requirements.
Balanced vs. Single Ended Interconnects
I got off RCA more than 30 years ago.  Never going back. My whole system runs balanced; that is truly balanced, not just single-ended terminated with XLRs.
