Rhodium...hmmm @knownothing listening tests are invalid unless they are blind. I hope YMMV doesn't stand for 'you make me vomit'?
Rhodium...hmmm Plating copper connectors with a thin layer of rhodium does not alter the conductivity of the copper. Or of the cables to which the connectors are attached. But not quite a complete waste of money because the rhodium will reduce oxidation in the...
Do your speakers bite?? I wouldn't keep a dog that has 'bite'. There seem to be quite a few here that like an edge that exaggerates the original performance. They want more excitement than the musicians and their instruments were able to give. A caricature, even, of t...
Which power cords have high resolutions and separation?? @cleeds Perhaps I was forgetting the US only has 120V which means double the amps. Here in UK we don't have much but we do have 230V. Tell me, which amp manufacturers supply larger than 20SWG for delivery in the US? @rolox and what were the...

Too Much Gain the Issue ? (preamp and amp) Buy a very low output MC cartridge to soak up some of your excess gain. Buy some really inefficient speakers. Most people would kill for the gain you have. But the Cary preamp gain is mad high.
My Amp is good but probably the weak point "as my system has come together I feel like it’s a choke point though I feel the sound of the system is superb." Why a choke point? You say the sound is 'superb'. I'd settle for less than 'superb'. Be happy. Take wifey for a nice holiday.
Digital is far better than vinyl @arafiq As @ltmandella says above. A very stupid comparison. Can't understand why some here waste their ink thinking the guy's for real.
System that sounds so real it is easy to mistaken it is not live I remember a blind test in the 80s where blindfolded listeners compared live performances with recordings of the same music in the same space. The results were strong; most listeners were able to distinguish easily and reliably. Even $1,000,000 ...

Do speaker cables really make a difference ? The confirmation bias story I like best: A man was walking in Manhattan with a bag of salt slung over one shoulder. Every few yards he took a pinch and threw it over his left shoulder. Someone came up to him and asked him why he was doing it...
How crucial is the quality of a digital cable? YES Clock error is the bane of digital audio and cannot be properly fixed. Analogue has its own clock because the signal is transmitted in real time and never leaves real time. Digits are transmitted in blibs and blobs with no time control. O...
Do speaker cables really make a difference ? @jasonbourne52 I'm sceptical of cable claims too. But not such a flat-earther as to say speaker cables make no difference. If you can hear an improvement in a bliind test then spend a bit of money on speaker cables but never nearly as much as ...
Sound is better when I stand up? @simao I note you have removed the toe-in. This is the purist position. If the production was classic then there was a spaced pair of dipole microphones in front of the musicians. If you don't toe-in you are hearing what the mics heard. I...
Cartridges I go with @dogberry There is magic in many LPs. Get the cart. @baylinor Forget unipivots. They offer nothing a properly supported arm cannot and will always be unstable. I have tried them. You cannot 'adjust' a flawed design. What to 'a... |
