Christmas Music and Audiophiles?
Dr. John singing "Silent Night" on the Dr. John plays Mac Rebennac CD. Incredible music and sound. I was able to find two sealed copies on vinyl, but Silent Night is only on the CD. Christmas or no, pick up this CD.
Are all Linn products made in Scotland?
Just follow the tune.
I just started listening to my CD player again
I don't know if you own a power conditioner, but if you don't, I would consider purchasing the Audience AR1p. There's one up for sale now at $300+. (no, it's not mine). This may well make a bigger difference than a new power cord, depending on the...
Record Cleaner Fluid suggestions
I am very impressed with Nitty Gritty Pure 2. It works very well and dries quickly due to a bit of alcohol. I have also tried Disc Doctor, Phoenix and L'Art and have not found any demonstrable superiority over NG2. I would say I leave it on for ab...
non redbook CD's
It sounds like you're speaking about peoples' interest in how a multi-format player performs with redbook CD. Unfortunately, many fine SACD or video players fall down significantly in this area as compared to a good Redbook-only player.
How best to upgrade
I don't know where you live, but if it's possible, I would build a relationship with a good audio dealer who can demonstrate the possibilites for you. I know it can be a little intimidating, but otherwise, you're just stabbing around in the dark. ...
On a mission for more BASS
Stick them in the corners - that should make them more to your liking.
Live Performances Gone Awry
Saw Sly and the Family Stone at the Electric Circus in 1968 - well, actually I didn't. They didn't show.
You never see this anymore
Mark did the same thing with Red Rose - I believe he had a dedicated studio in NYC. However, much of the stuff had a more than superficial resemblance to much cheaper stuff made in China, which I would imagine put some people off. Whether it was a...
Esoteric Mods
After going the mod route once, with a very nice and reputable person, I have come to the conclusion that if you are not satisfied with what you have, sell it and buy something you like better. That has been my experience.
What would you upgrade next if you had my hifi ?
Get a record player. Your digital is excellent, but you shouldn't deprive yourself of vinyl. No need to spend a fortune. Buy a Music Hall MMF-7 and 10 new records from Acoustic Sounds just to see if you enjoy the whole experience. If you do, you c...
My audiophile take on the symphony last night.
Funny thing about live music - no matter how bad the acoustics are, you can tell it's live and not recorded. Keep in mind that many orchestral recordings are made from the conductor's perspective, just as piano recordings are made from the player'...
Rega DAC? Oppo 95 and wait?
The OP has owned some good CD players. I've heard both the Apollo and the Jolida and, IMO, they would satisfy many listeners. Obviously, the OP is not satisfied with these very decent players and I think it's a waste to move from one 1K player to ...
Rega DAC? Oppo 95 and wait?
You're looking for more, but without spending more. Good luck. Trading sideways in the 1K range may get you something different, but that's about it. If you like screwing around with different equipment, that's fine, but if you're really looking f...
Most stylish CD player .
Metronome Kalista. Doesn't sound bad either.
